Yeah been there a couple of times, freaky place even in daylight. They have started pulling the place down now and put up some pretty recent "Tresspassers will be arrested" signs.

After a couple of gigs in Palmy, "Ahh we got a new guy in the band, lets go to lake Alice!"

Good times, Good times.

There was this abondoned house across the road from Poodle in N.P. Some local skinheads used to live next door and even being next door freaked them out (Kickboxing Champions, so they wernt exactly pussys). Got a couple of cool photos of the place, but it got burnt down a while ago. First time Skate took me there, we were going through a hole in the wall at night time, whole house was overgrown, and im thinking "Something bad is gonna happen" and right then, my Cramps t-shirt got a big rip in it. Suck.

It's super annoying how AK city closed down all the tunnels, it could of been a money making thing for them . . or something. I mean I'd pay $5 or so to be given a map and a torch and told to go for my life in the tunnels.

Would be awesome.

Haha, yeah we've been locked in up there too. Had to call some gay security company to come let us out. Dude gets there, says the fine is $150 (After opening the gate already), so we just drove out... he didn't try stop us.

Those tunnels are fucking awesome that you enter through the pillboxes. Have to squeeze through what looks like an impossible gap in the bars. It's quite stink tho when ten of you get through and have to leave one larger friend sitting outside on his own. Is that the gate you are talking about that you took off? Or the entrance to the carpark?

Carpark entrance. Fuck calling them up for them to open it. We saw the guy taking down the number plates but were too far away to run up and try leave. Would've been great when someone went back in the morning and the cars were gone, pad lock still on the gates

Yeah we had found a way out down the bank next to that house up there, bit rugged but would have got out. Only reason we waited was because there were about 4 other cars with people sitting waiting who had already called. I don't know what their excuse was to get locked in, we were 20 feet underground half a km away. Maybe the security company just sneaks the gate closed and fucks off.

I'd say they would often lock people in cause their day is pretty uneventful and it would be funny. I'm saying this cause if it was my job to lock gates, I would definitely lock people and their cars in

Apparently there's one near Hoyts in Wairau Park, but you have to run across the motorway to get to it, which I'm not really keen for. There's also ones up by the pillboxes in Campbells Bay. Last time I was there the council stuck a big padlock on the gate and locked us and our cars in, so we just got a socket wrench and spanner and took the whole gate off

i live around the corner from wairau park, never heard of a tunnel around here but id be mega keen to find one!
the secret to getting past bars is to put a car jack between the bars and wind it untill the gap is big enough to fit through :)
im guessing the camples bay ones youre talking about are the kennedy park ones? they didnt always used to have bars on them, i remember my dad taking us through when we were little. you can still get into tunnels in that park, there are holes in the side of the hills that are un covered.
aparently thwere are full on aeroplanes under north head, just covered over by a big ass brick wall :s anyone else heard of that?

long bay has a few tunnels if you go bush walking for a bit, some of them are quite dangerous to climb down to, but once you get down to them its sweet.

i guess i was wrong about rangitoto, i was under the impression that the whole island was tapu land now.

edit: screwed up the quote thing

I was pretty sure that once the owners of a bach died the property had to be passed back to the govt on Rangitoto and all the last owners were real old now??

I think the tunnels go right under Albert Park. I remember about 8 years ago some guy trying to get the council to let him open them up as a tourism business. I think it was around the same time that the whole - is it a conspiracy or is it real - thing came out about the planes in devonport.

When I first left home I moved into The People's Centre which was a semi abandoned building on Custom Street. We had the best bb gun wars running through that empty old place.

I can't for the life of me remember the place at the bottom of sentinel though??

Yeah some guy did want to turn the Albert Park tunnels into a market, they run right under the park, quite extensive. The place at the bottom of Sentinel is pretty new. Cliff top mansion that never got completed. Google Albert Park tunnels and theres a good site with maps and photos of dudes who went for an explore back in 96. Theyve all been filled up with clay bricks but, so its unlikely theyll ever be opened to the public

Yeah I remember my dad telling me this. I went up North Head last night during the storm. Could've been stormier tbh

And yeah I do mean Kennedy Park. I'll try find out where the tunnel in Wairau Park is

It floods hardout as, around it there is a trench (or was) which went about waist deep, and the inside of it was about knee deep. I looked at it the other day though, and it's barely even a building anymore, more of a skeleton

Dunno if it's been mentioned yet but I just went and checked out the Wright Hill Fortress in the weekend in Karori. They had a gun that could nearly hit the South Island from Wellington and shattered windows when they test fired it after the WWII. Man that is sweet.

Edit found some more info:

Two huge 9.2 inch guns were installed by the Army in 1944, after arriving by ship fom England. The whole gun weighed 135 tons, with the barrel alone weighing 28 tons. The order for the third gun was cancelled after an improvement in the Pacific war situation. The guns could fire a 380 pound (172 kg) shell up to 18 miles (30 km) across Cook Strait towards Tory channel, or up as far as Plimmerton. Each shell was about three feet (1 metre) long and was propelled by two half charges of 62 pounds (28kg) of cordite. The guns of course never fired in anger but were test fired, each with three rounds, in 1946 and 47 after the War. The Army reported later that the "proofings," as they were called, were "most satisfactory". Broken windows resulted at the Fortress after the blasts.

The Fortress was used for training purposes up to the mid 1950's but a Government decision in early 1960 resulted in the guns being cut up for scrap and being sold, ironically, to the Japanese. The gun emplacements were filled with rubble and other equipment removed from the Fortress.
