take any decent pesto recipe - make according to instructions but leave out the parmesan - you cant taste it anyway.

Bullshit, parmesan is one of the main ingredients in pesto.

This is the recipe I usually use. I substituted faux parmesan and i though it tasted really good, even non-vegans said it was pretty similar to the real thing.
Faux parmesan doesn't really taste like parmesan by itself but is fine used in recipes.[/url]

A real pesto should have parmesan cheese, or sometimes romano or asiago.
I am yet to see a good pesto recipe that has no cheese.

pecorino
is the most common substitute for parma.
but even supermarket "gourmet" brands have vegan pesto's and if you want to got to a decent store and buy dope shit then you can get many vegan pestos and tapernades.

Re: Vegan Pesto?
best vegan pesto:
1 cup pine nuts
all the leaves from one of those basil plants you get from the supermarket for 2 bucks
just over a tablespoon of olive oil
cracked pepper to taste
salt to taste
BLEND THE SHIT OUT OF IT

I've made it with a nutritional yeast parmesan substitute before, but didn't find it necessary. Tastes great without any parmesan.

Re: Vegan Pesto?
Salsa only made pesto with no cheese.
and it was the badness.
Im pretty sure 7 in grey lynn also does the same.
there is no need to make pesto with cheese. if you want then sweet who cares, but its just as good without.
