what do people do for pedalboards?

Wank on about your rig and how grand it sounds or just ask for advice on gear.

what do people use? just a piece of wood and dyi 100%? what about power supply? any all-included bought pedalboards you'd recommend?

As far as power supplies go, it depends on your pedals-whether you need multiple voltages and whether they flip out with a common earth (unisolated ie daisy chain)
Check out the pedaltrain stuff for pre made pedal boards.

some diy stuff I've done:

which opens into:

or this:

It fills one side of the bag in the background, leaving the other side for leads & junk.

Though, I'd suggest buying one, judging by your posts, a diy attempt would end like this:

Every time I've gone to a venue there's been a mean as really big pedal board waiting for the whole band to use.

Only using two pedals at the moment and was trying to cut down space for travel so I'm not using a board, but normally I just use a piece of wood in an old laptop case for a few pedals. When I need way more pedals I have one of those Warwick cases around, but it's too deep and tall so takes up way more room than it needs to. Fairly solid but I wouldn't fly with it.

If you are feeling spendy or or need to go on planes I would get a pedaltrain or get livesound to make something, otherwise a piece of wood in a shallow suitcase/briefcase type thing will probably do.

I think those fancy power supplies are a waste of money unless you need to power several pedals of different voltages. You can easily mount a "cheap" regulated power supply to a board with some strips of metal or cable ties.

Every time I go to a venue I don't have to spend 10mins plugging in pedals.

Plugging pedals in and out all the time:the second most common cause of pedal death behind beer spillage. Mechanical wear & tear = inevitable failure.

Thats the whole reason i got a pedal train, now its so easy to set up, just pull it out, plug one lead to the amp plug in power supplies and done

Same here. I had a pedaltrain JR and voodoo pedal power 2. On the board I had

Tuner - Wah - Overdrive - Pedal - Gate

I also had a BBE Sonix Maximiser on there which went through the effects loop

The aux AC output of the pedal power powered my 12v wireless system as well. Everything was on the board and already put together, plus the hard/flight case also stored my additional leads, jug chords and speaker cables.

It was perfect for touring and I could set up in about 2-3 minutes. Considering the amount of touring I did with that setup, it was well worth the pricetag.

I've gone back to digital now but I've kept the tuner/OD/gate in for shows I can't bring my rig to, I'm probably going to get a pedaltrain mini + soft case and a godlyke daisy chain for the pedals (I hate buying batteries)

pedaltrains are great, make sure you get the hardcase one though cause having a bag means that you cant put shit ontop of your pedal board still, you dont want knobs to break off.

in terms of power supply most pedals are 9v anyway so theres no point swaying away from daisychain & a 1200ma adapter, even a 500ma lets you chain up to 10 (providing they only draw 50ma, which most boss & ibanez pedals do), all those other brick options are really expensive and most dont cater for awkward voltages like electrharmonix and t.c electronics, if you know a sparky im sure they can jimmy something up thats most likely a custom shape to fit underneath, and theres that adaptor company in auckland that makes them aswell, custom outputs for relatively cheap, uhhh, problem is i forget what theyre called

i got a boss tu-2 that i used to use to power most of my shit, but then i lost the actual daisychain fffffuuuuuuuuuuuuu

pedaltrain mini looks alright for what i need, keen to use a smaller board to force my setup simpler haha. it says it comes with a case, but is it hard?

pedatrain mini is soft case. I'm thinking of getting one myself. I think that + a Godlyke Daisy chain would be good for my backup/overseas pedal setup.

I do this:

Image

Probably better options as far as boards go but got this for $100 off tardme a few years ago so sticking with it till I make it big 8) . Powers all pedals but I'll need to improvise with daisy-chain if I carry out plans to add more stomp-boxes. Takes seconds to set up on stage used to do the string of pedals/adaptors/batteries thing was a huge pain-in-the-arse this is a way more practical way to go if you have more than 2 or 3 pedals if you go for something like this would recommend ALWAYS carry an extention cord and maybe an extra double/four-way plug as have been caught short in this department once or twice in the past. For me this is a better option than multi-fx pedals as I can pick-and-choose and change individual fx easily plus I'm fussy as have been through at least 5 different wah pedals over the years.
Check my post on this forum for the rig it fronts. 0X

I used to do this, until I calmed the fuck down. Seriously can't be fucked with a board anymore, have pedals set up in modules in a case so doesn't take that long to set up. Don't actually use many of the pedals in their at all now, I've bought more pedals and retired some to studio / other band use. Bemsha is Korg tuner - Boss cs3 compressor - EH Octave Multiplexer - Boss HR2 Harmonist - ZVex Machine - EH Muff or Rat depending how I feel - SIB Mr Echo - Boss RV3 reverb.

That guy must literally know no chords or where any notes are, or how to hold a guitar.

(The theory being that one pedal = 3 months less of figuring out how to actually play and sound interesting).

There is a guy who is starting to make custom pedal boards in NZ, similar to pedaltrain styles.

http://www.pedalmule.com/

only just started but well worth a look if you're after a kiwi made pedalboard.

Thanks for the bump Bot.
