Dosa Plaza

Postby punk rock rebel » Tue Apr 06, 2010 11:59 pm

Indian chain now open in auckland. Over 100 options. Completely vege / about 20% of menu is vegan
Mainly Indian but also indian-chinese, indian-mexican and some other stuff. Kids meals too.
Went last night, samosas were ridiculously hot. Could barely finish them.

Eating there is an experience. Vegetarian, surreal, hilarious...McDonalds.

It's a magnificently sterile environment with like five hundred different menu items. Everything tastes tremendously frozen - I'd say the calibre of the food is on par with an average taco bell. We ordered maybe 7 dishes between us and nobody wanted to finish their food. It was just greasy, sterile, boring food.

Fuck that place.

Actually though, if you're one of those people that think Sal's pizza is OMFG HOLY SHIT THIS IS SO DELICIOUS JESUS CHRIST then this place is probably perfect for you.

I'm the whitest man on earth when it comes to Indian food, well, insofar as I actually enjoy the most disgusting white-trash culture-rape food that is things like butta chukkun and so forth, but this place was too fast-foody even for me. Ironically the only reason we went was on the ass-end of a recommendation from someone we really should stop listening to.

The prices were the only thing that you wouldn't find in a fast food chain.

When I was there the whole restaurant was empty except for us, and there were something like six chefs standing around twiddling their thumbs in the kitchen. Place must have been hemorrhaging dinero.

If you go and like it I will be herculeanly surprised.

EDIT: And yeah, I'd be willing to wager there isn't anything on the menu that isn't processed/frozen.

Good on the novelty factor. Good for a drunken feed, although I dont think i'd bother going back there again. Once was enough.

Went to the one in Metro on Queen st for lunch today and was pleasantly surprised. By no means the best Indian I've ever had but pretty decent regardless. Maybe the Mt Roskill one just sucks?
Some parts of the menu were a bit av, naan particularly but the dosas my friends and I shared were rad.
Has anyone else been to the Queen St one?
Would eat again. 6/10.
