It was timely of me to watch this movie the other week. Good one, Australia.

Hah, will have to check that one out.

Westerners criticise the Chinese wet markets, but they remind me of one of my dad's wildest USA stories. He was travelling through several states on a track geometry car with Norfolk & Western Railway in 1980 to see how they work over there. On the first day he was already deep in bumfuck nowhere Deliverance style, stopping for lunch in Davy, West Virginia for what were touted as the best cheeseburgers in the state if not the whole country. Inside the burger place he could see through to the kitchen, and at the same countertop where the burgers were made the guy was skinning squirrels. I'm sure when he first told the story he said he opted not to have a burger, but now he thinks maybe he did.

Shocking. I would have assumed all drug dealers were trustworthy people who aren't doing it primarily for money.

China was much best politically equipped with this than we were. They didn't have to worry about any of this human rights stuff, they just came down hard. Well, I guess we're going to get a taste of what it's like to live in Wutan. Glad it's Jacinda anyway. Enjoy your 1 month under fascism, kids.

Idyllic suburban boredom here. People out walking/cycling (with family members only). Sure, being served at a convenience store by a guy in a mask was a new experience. I'm temporarily living with my parents in Porirua. At least I work from home and love watching movies. It's not scary here if you ask me. Almost all the cases still being linked to travellers returning home, and no deaths yet. I worry about my overseas friends though.

I think we are still in early days here. I'd be really happy to be proven wrong though..

i was thinking today how good punkas would have been during this lockdown if it happened 12 years ago. like, facebook is good, but theres only so much you want to see from cousins / local community groups / people that think nothing like you.
its weird reading this thread and seeing how much everything has changed even in the last week.

Why are the independent grocers and farmer's markets closed? Surely food is an essential service? Used to enjoy buying my veges from the grumpy old cunt who runs my local market.

What language are you guys learning on Duo Lingo?

This keeps up learning Italian wont be much use.
But cruel jokes aside, I'm practicing my German and I have a strange addiction to Solitaire.
Also reclaiming my title as second best in Australia on the Simpsons Quiz Up.
I never did make number 1.

I've been giving Scottish Gaelic a crack. Took me ages to figure out what IRN BRU was.

Thanks for the duolingo site, I've done a day of Japanese.... I already knew how to count to 10 from my martial arts days but learning the writing is going to be difficult. Basically they have 3 writing systems, hiragana for common native words, katakana for foreign words and kanji which are borrowed chinese characters.

Katakana is handy. You can kinda half get by just knowing that when visiting Japan as they use so many adopted English words that you see it everywhere.

Nearing end of week three at home here. Not complaining because I can still work. Certainly feeling a bit nutty though. Really glad to have a mate in my neighbourhood who I meet up with for a brisk arvo stroll come knockoff, followed with a quick couple of beers before back into isolation. Shit's weird.

Getting towards the end of the second week here (actually couldn't tell you how long it's been). I've reinstated my vege garden and outside is a lot tidier. I've also begun updating my CV, because I can't see my lodge manager position existing in October when the new season starts. Going to apply for a job as an island keeper. No lighthouse unfortunately.
My flatmate, who I haven't actually had to live with over the last six months, sleeps 18 hours a day, doesn't get dressed, doesn't shower and doesn't clean. He does smoke on the verandah and he did just give me some rent. Looking forwards to the end of the lockdown so he can fuck off in his van.

Forums are good because they're limited to decent cunts.
Facebook is full of infuriatingly stupid people trying to organise buy/sell for nebulous shit, and people overreacting.
Email/Discord/Zoom/Whatsapp is just my work trying to spread into every channel possible to make sure people are still actually working from home.
