Christmas work do's get just a little bit silly
I banned myself from attending work drinks several years ago when working on Avatar. I didnt lose my job but probably couldnt complain if I had. To avoid this happening again I generally avoid them.
Several years on I thought i was mature enough to handle another. Last night we wrapped up a building site for the year. The owner is an old punk type and my boss is pretty choice, my mates the other chippy so i thought fuck yeah, lets have a few.
4 hours into it, the chippy has boss in a headlock...... boss flips him around and puts him in a police like hold with arm behind his back twisting his fingers for effect. Instead of being subdued, he swings around with a chair aiming for the boss. Narrowly misses his head. Owner screams, i tried to break it up. It was all pretty funny. Then we put on Dragon. Mean
How was yours?

I have no memory of mine, no fallout so must have either behaved myself or did something so egregious that everyone refuses to mention it ever again.

I generally wake up afterward with a sense of dread and regret, regardless of whether I've done anything

I've been off work being mental so I didn't go to mine.

Worst thing I ever did at a Xmas do was what I did to my liver when I lived a 1min walk up the road. In my top 3 hangovers for sure. I was at work, on time, the next day. Just not as a functioning human.
I might have done bad things that night too. Fuck knows.

Work events are just working for free. Seize the means of party production.

Turned up, ate a bunch, waited to not win any prizes, took a free taxi home. Worth it for the food.
I guess you really need to ask yourself... What Would Graeme Do?

Did all the interns coke in the bathroom, then licked the sales manager when he wouldn't give me a kiss on the cheek like the other managers had.

Think you win this round Aidan. Luckily Poms generally find obnoxious drunken behaviour somewhat endearing eh

I guess it was OK because I'm still there. I won an award for being pretty awesome last year.

Pretty tame.this year. My boss banned spirits to keep it that way. No fights. My polish workmate fell over allot. I won some money tossing horse shoes. Gave my boss a bag of weed for xmas. He gave me $500 bucks. That was nice.
Now i have a payed 4 weeks off. Never had that in my life. Fuck yeah. Maybe il pretend im still a punk and get shitfaced in Footscray park for a month straight

Had ours at a rooftop bar in the city. Most of my crew didn't show because it was a day off, so it was mostly the hospo side of things - which made it like accidentally turning up to a high school party when you're in your twenties.
Wasn't bad. Spent most of it snorting in the loos and drinking cocktails until the tab ran out. No fights, everyone's a bit too fruity for that sort of carry on.

Such a tame affair. Nibbles put on but we had to buy our own drinks. Secret Santa wasn't completely shit. I just be getting old because I got a wheatbag and thought it wasn't a bad thing.
Breakup bbq in the vehicle basement today at midday. Glutard sausage and coleslaw then me, some planners and the interns pissed off to have midday g&ts ...
Oh, and I forgot to add, the actual organisation wide official staff party was on, but I don't know anyone who went. If you go to that your partner has to pay $40. You get 2 drinks, a buffet and a secret Santa pressie which is usually some 'gift' that was declared and handed in- so a Korean sister city letter opener or something. Additionally there will be a "oh we've done well this year, blah blah blah..." type pep talk. Avoid.

Nope, that was my biggest learning of contracting: Contractors don't get shit. Except ripped off of any worker's rights or union representation.
