any punkas members in london?

Postby wassup rockers » Thu Apr 28, 2016 1:02 pm

i'm moving over in a couple weeks.

any tips and tricks to clock this city would be appreciated.

i'm talkin: good areas to live, good bars/venues similar to kings arms, good places to work with like-minded peoples (cafes, pubs), or just any advice would be cool.

share ur london tales

It's been a while, but I think theres a few good shows at The Worlds End in camden. Been a venue for many a moon, so allot of good bands been through there.
I managed to pass out standing up there one night, came to with a satchel full of my own puke just intime to watch Subhumans.
Theres a good record shop in Camden too, also Oi the shop.

London is over priced, the weathers shit, winters grim, but i really enjoy the pub culture. Drinking cider in ye olde pub is a pretty enjoyable experience.

Spent most my time in brixton. It's a vibrant and colourful place. Dirty, but in a good way.

Also although good bands play The worlds end, its not really a good place for a beer. Basically any corner pub is enjoyable drinking hole, they have more history and just seem more welcoming. Maybe cos pubs in nz and aus are riddled with the horiffic binging and glaring lights of pokie machines.

cheers for that. i've been to the worlds end before they tend to have shows almost every day of the week eh? pretty keen to go back there.

yep, this is why i'm only spending less than a year there. luckily it's mostly over summer so it should be bearable

If you need good quality "boring" dress shoes for work or special occasions UK still has a local industry (Loakes etc) and they'll be cheaper over there.

they only have argyle socks and union jack socks, but thats ok, cos if youre actually in the UK then wearing the union jack will be ok, expecially if its with leopard skin creepers and rolled up red jeans.

England seems to be quite proud of it's millinery culture, so procuring a well made hat to compliment your ensemble is not out of the question.

Burberry - only if you're a chav.

I never liked London, spent a bit of time in Hackney & a bit of time in the West. Pubs & Cafes pay barely above minimum wage, which can make drinking in them less glorious.

I lived in Bristol, it was close to London for whenever you wanted to go there, punk scene's good - lots of show's, GC's and rent's under half what you'd pay in London - but obviously a slower pace of life. Personally I'd move to Manchester over London (not that this paragraph remotely helps).

I prefer the honest grimness of the north over the south. My friend keeps posting pictures on facebook of sunsets and lovely sunny days in Bristol. Apparently people are always smiling and once she said she joined a bracelet making class while walking home from work. Horrendous.

Manchester is grey, and everyone drinks a lot, and coke is shit but you buy it sometimes anyway.

London is very full of people and it takes a long time to get anywhere and you will live in a cupboard for £700 a month. Lots of stuff going on though, I like visiting. If you live there I will tell you when stuff is on then come sleep on your couch. See you at Chimpyfest.

haha yeah there's certainly an abundance of hippies. The smiling is either the cider that is so readily available or the fact that most people in Brizzle are on Ketamine.
