first piece of music I ever bought for myself, I had music before this but my Dad always chose it.

Re: The First Item of Music You Ever Owned

For my birthday, was about 7 or 8.
Re: The First Item of Music You Ever Owned
Bad was my second. That and New Kids on the Block *cringe*
I'm not a cool guy anymore.
Re: The First Item of Music You Ever Owned
Great thread.

Side one
Faith - The Chipmunks (George Michael)
Always on My Mind - The Chipmunks (Various artists, based on Pet Shop Boys version)
Walk Like an Egyptian - The Chipettes (The Bangles)
Heaven Is a Place on Earth - The Chipettes (Belinda Carlisle)
Bad - The Chipmunks (Michael Jackson)
Diamond Dolls - The Chipettes
La Bamba - The Chipmunks (Ritchie Valens originally, based on Los Lobos version)
Side two
Mony Mony - The Chipmunks (Tommy James & The Shondells originally, based on Billy Idol's version)
I Want to Dance with Somebody - The Chipettes (Whitney Houston)
You Keep Me Hangin' On - The Chipmunks and The Chipettes (The Supremes originally, based on Kim Wilde's version)
Do You Love Me? - The Chipmunks (The Contours)
The Girls of Rock 'n' Roll - The Chipmunks and The Chipettes
Venus - The Chipettes (The Shocking Blue originally, based on Bananarama's version)
Pink Cadillac- The Chipettes (Bruce Springsteen originally, based on Natalie Cole's version)
Still know the words to a lot of them because of this tape.

I don't think there's any music I've ever stopped liking. This one doesn't sound quite like I remember because I used to focus even more attention on the vocals in music than I do now.

Re: The First Item of Music You Ever Owned

Pretty sure it was this single. Was cruising the mall in Henderson with my mum and saw this tape, as soon as i saw the dude with the piercing from his nose to his ear I knew I had to have this tape. Mum was uneasy with my choice and phoned my father at work asking if this would be appropriate. Dad said yes and thus began my foray into hard rock/ballads. Mum also bought me fingerless gloves that day, I walked around only wearing one as this was how it was done back in '91.

Sure is some shit above.
But I think I win if it's a shit contest, and not just because it's a compilation

At least I can say it only got rapidly better from there.

Re: The First Item of Music You Ever Owned
Pretty sure this was the first "music" I owned (probably from about 91/92):

I also remember buying these two in about 1993:

Wasn't really a fan of music, I just liked cartoons.
But I did listen to my parents Queen greatest hits tape a lot.

Re: The First Item of Music You Ever Owned
Brought these on LP when I was 7 or 8. Think Pink Floyd was the first from memory...

had a mean dubbed tape of AC/DC's Back In Black on one side and Dirty Deeds on the other that I stole off my sister too

Dubbed off a mate's brother.

Bought from the old record shop in Linwood City in 1987.
