Don McGlashan is in hospital after cycling into a car door which opened in front of him.

The singer has three broken ribs, a broken collarbone and a punctured lung as a result of the accident when he was riding along a street off Auckland's Dominion Road on Monday.

Ironically Dominion Road is the name of one of his big hits with the Muttonbirds.

The singer was coming back from the supermarket with a load of groceries when a driver in front of him opened his car door and he smashed into it.

The 52-year-old was catapulted through the air and smashed into the road.

ironically he fell off a bike and hurt himself, cos he invented bikes, cars, roads and hurting oneself.

his agony was obviously mitigated by the sweet sweet irony, im sure he reflected to himself as he struggled to breath thru the smashed ribs in his lungs 'this is like that time i was looking for a knife and all i found was thousands and thousands of spoons, spoons everywhere'

and he must have felt a lot better for it too.
