i saw all those bands.
Tempest were fkn terrible, saw them at a mushroom party at a farmhouse just out of Darfield, about 94ish.
Hammerack used to play in that bar out the back of The Aranui Hotel, saw them a couple of times. Maybe with a band called Fat Sally or something.
This thread is the first time i've thought about those bands for years.

yep. i think they even got some vinyl out back in the day maybe?

the bar behind the aranui hotel was called the arena, used to be my regular on the wknds back then when i was a wee young metaller.

i've got a lot of fond memories of pumpkinhead gigs from the mid '90s...

The best thing about Pumpkinhead was that tale of how the singer was a ghastly junkie whose managing of the band involved him completely ripping off the other members in order to stuff his filthy veins with as much homebake as possible.

Fuck, those coke ads were shocking - apart from that RnB act who pulled out the Punx as effort, which was amusing at the very least

ffs.... what sound is it then? politically correct guy... what would you call the ska sound in? Danehall Satan, Leftover Crack, Choking V, Los Crudos or Stupid Stupid Henchmen?

Its just thirdwave with slightly rougher vocals. There is nothing "crust" about Leftover Crack or any of the other bands youve mentioned.

Oh jeezuz.
1st wave ska=Jamaican ska e.g. Desmond Dekker, Don Drummond, The Ethiopians, the Skatalites etc..
2nd wave ska= British ska, two tone stuff like the Specials, the Beat, Bad Manners etc.
3rd Wave ska= cali punk influenced by ska e.g. Mad Caddies, Catch 22, Five Iron Frenzy, LOC etc..
Its not about being a nerd its about knowing what youre talking about before you start throwing around genre names that dont exist.
Id love to know what bands you think are classed as crust.

ok then ... ummmmm as i said ... I've been under a rock for a long time ... nz crust bands that i remember where bands like "the sick fucks" "prison death fucks" fuck there where others but .... i guess drugs do effect the memory after all a. ummm i also thought Malparido and Foe had a some what crusty feel. i think i was right for my e.g ... i reckon they are crust bands ... with some 3rd wave in the mix. most the band I've given e.g for aren't really one genre anyway, thats what i really like about them. e.g L.O.C classical music?

would ya like to give me some crust band e.g?

i remember when Aaron and Donald started up Gluefist after Pumpkinhead, they were a good band, saw them a few times at His Lordships Tavern, and also at a couple of parties. Round the same time as Braaspadeak, The Rarms, Molested Entrails, Dogroll, etc. See any of them?

Oh hai morgan! Sounds like you're looking for more crack rock steady stuff.
As far as I'm aware there isn't much of this going on in NZ - Missing Teeth & Poisoners were probably the closest.
You may like Night Gaunts - http://www.myspace.com/nightgauntsnz
or (self promo) my old band Dead End Job - http://www.myspace.com/deadendjobnz

Australia have a few cool bands:
The Dumpers - http://www.myspace.com/xthedumpersx
Cap a Capo - http://www.myspace.com/capacapo
The Disadvantaged - http://www.myspace.com/thedisadvantaged

Bands around the world worth checking out:
Public Serpents - http://www.myspace.com/publicserpents
No Cash - http://www.myspace.com/nocashband
The Pousers - http://www.myspace.com/theposeursrock
Beng Beng Cocktail - http://www.myspace.com/bengbengcocktail
Murder Media - http://www.myspace.com/murderxmedia
Atrocity Solution - http://www.myspace.com/atrocitysolution666
The Dead Subverts - http://www.myspace.com/deadsubverts
No Glory - http://www.myspace.com/noglorynj
Niño Zombi -http://www.myspace.com/ninozombi

And you may even like The Mad Conductor - http://www.myspace.com/themadconductor that's more 'rap' i spose.

Fuck Lordies ruled hard. There's another pub calling itself the same thing now, but it's a shiny yuppie shit hole run by Dave Henderson. I had great times in the old Lordies. I saw Ness chase out some boneheads with a pool cue one night.

Gluefist were awesome in their early hardcoreish days. Sucked pretty hard after NZ on Air got hold of them though. Blastoff were awesome too, especially for their stripped down version of 21st Century Schizoid Man. Anyone who can punk out something as non-punk as King Crimson is worthy of my respect.

That bloke Kerry on gat who worked in Echo was a top bloke too, he introduced me to heaps of good sounds when I was a spotty young thing going through the record bins upstairs.
