Rough as ferry crossing to Stewart Island, all good until one of the 9 dogs on the back started hurling, then a freaking nightmare for about 20 minutes as dogs and people began losing it all around me. I still don't know how I didn't lose my chips, much staring fixedly at the horizon while shallow breathing.

I kinda feel bad about what I said above, its obvious to anyone who grew up living here, but I'm sure I'd be completely lost and mystified why strangers were fed up with me if I was wandering about getting in everyone's way in some other country.

Nah, it's quite fair enough.

It's a nightmare at times here as they are the only people stupid enough to buy the ridiculously shit and small apartments that keep getting built in the CBD and so they just shuffle about the town in massive groups, having zero spatial awareness at all and being incapable of processing how irritating they are.

The stupid old lady trolleys they block the aisles with in supermarkets, blocking escaltors, the walking out of shops without looking and just stopping on the footpath in front of everyone, staring at their phone as they walk straight at people, crossing roads without even looking to see the cars coming at them as they furiously text, double parking on the streets, parking in front of access doors in the numerous lane ways...REFUSING to fucking well get the fuck out of the fucking way of the tram / train doors so people can depart and trying to shove their way on like it's rush hour in the Tokyo subway.

Fuck, I could go on about this for ages like a long time listener, first time caller to talk back.

It's not really an excuse, it's just how it is, from my experience people outside of NZ are often pushy cunts from an NZ perspective at least. NZers getting pissy at this is just sort of funny as foreigners are probably completely unaware they're not meeting the social requirement in this country.

Don't get me wrong, New Zealanders tendency to be supper polite to strangers can be nice, but it's fairly insincere at times considering how ruthless we are once on the chop

NZers are the world's worst queuers. We just kind of stand around spreading out sideways, then get super pissy if anyone pushes in. Same on escalators, no frikkin idea.

You're right about escalators and stairs, the rest of the world seems to have figured out how to stick to the left/right, depending on the country, but New Zealanders wonder all over the place. I guess people figure it out pretty quickly after being told to get the fuck out the way, whereas we're a bit too polite so never develop the habit

We're pretty good at queuing compared to Italians though - at the post office they have a ticket system otherwise they'd just mass at the counter, and at the airport they always have giant carry on luggage so will start queuing pretty much as soon as they get to the gate so that they can stow their bag by their seat, even if boarding isn't for another 45 minutes, and auxiliary queues will often form if people decide they're too far back

Especially down escalators. Unless you're disabled or something there's no excuse for being too lazy to put one foot in front of another, especially if you're holding up the people behind you.

I guess there are things Asians think of as normal etiquette that we don't do here, like wearing a surgical mask when you have a cold, taking your shoes off before entering a house, and they have this whole face-saving concept which is a lot more complex than most of us imagine (it's not just a trivial matter of public embarrassment like farting in the lift).

They're not as rude as Israelis anyway.

It's interesting that this thread has become the casual racism thread because you're not allowed to point out things like walking out in front of cars when you're glued to your phone is shit, or blocking supermarket aisles because you, your mate, your nana trolley, and your basket all need to squat there as you stack up all the baby formula you can carry to send back home to sell is just plain inconsiderate.

The joke is you're totally right. Our money buys their very limited tolerance there a lot of the time. I've had random chats with second generation Asians who live here and they hate this behaviour with a vitriol far beyond what were talking about.

Race definitely isn't a factor. I couldn't understand why everyone in Hong Kong was a rude, unobliging cunt at first, and I couldn't help but think to my young self at the time 'wow people in Asia DO have bad manners', but I quickly learned what a narrow-minded view that is. When there's a couple hundred people hurriedly cramming onto a harbour ferry within a few minutes before it leaves you just do not give any fucks about personal space or common courtesy. After Hong Kong I went to London and boarded the tube at Victoria Station at peak hour while carrying a bunch of luggage - I do not recommend this. I instantly realised people from densely populated cities have different manners to us, it's in everyone's best interest to not give fucks, and I'd only appeared to be some angry or crazy tourist. I quickly became what I had previously hated. I have fond memories of an elderly woman elbowing past me on the tube. I couldn't help but laugh. Really broadened my world view. If you're raised in that dog eat dog shit then it makes sense that you're going to hold onto those traits for life.

as i said, i can imagine that people in other cultures view new zealanders as dopey idiots in many day to day things that are normal to them but confusing to us, but i dont get how basic supermarket etiquette is unknown to them, i guess ive witnessed new zealanders being idiots too, selfishly blocking aisles, abruptly halting, basically acting as if they are the only people there, but it just seems so damn common with asian immigrants, it cant be that they come from a busy place or surely they would be more aware, not act like country bumpkins.

i dunno, it must suck to be so sjw that you cant criticise people of another ethnicity, and feel you have to call other people racist if they do.
