What I saw of the second half against Perth, the nix strung together a lot of nice passes. Greenacre really needs to watch his offsides.

Freaky how Smeltz scored at the same time as the French try.

Hopefully Man U. get more drubbings this season.

I enjoyed that Manchester game more than the Rugby World Cup Final. I liked the cutting between Rooney having a little paddy on the field to Alex Ferguson chewing gum and going red-faced as the goals kept coming.

the big names already leaving tottenham.

I'm not sure about rodgers for liverpool as yet. I liked the way he got swansea playing and I don't think there is the kind of player power at liverpool that you see at other clubs so I think he will get the respect he deserves. Some interesting names being linked with them with a few who I hope don't come in. However if Joe Cole comes back and continues his form along with gerrard, lucas and aquaman potentially then we could be in with a good showing.

Rodgers did an amazing job with Swansea, but I'm not so sure he'll bring the change Liverpool fans are looking for. It's a huge step taking a team from the championship to the PL, but it's a massive leap taking control of one of the leading PL clubs when you haven't coached at that level for very long.

In saying that, he's done a fantastic job with a limited budget with the Swans.

I'm looking forward to this, although I figure MH will be looking for a younger CB as well. Nelsens a great signing, but he's getting on and is becoming more injury prone.

Hopefully our signings this season will help us stay clear of the relegation zone. Was too stressful last season. Pretty nervous most of the players we're being linked with "older" though..

The Spain - France game had to be the most boring game I've seen in some time. I really should have just stayed in bed.

Hope you didn't watch the England vs Italy game.
England were so poor I am actually relieved that I don't have to watch what Germany would have done to the them.

I like the way the English media seems confused as to why their team keeps getting knocked out on penalties.

THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU PLAY DEFENSIVELY FOR A DRAW.

Still, must be worrying for Italy that they couldn't put anything away with that massive possession advantage. It's still looking like the Spain v Germany final everyone picked from the start...

Damn how has this game not ended already. Ronaldo seems to have lost quite a bit of his finer skills. Go the iSky though which allows me to watch at work

Portugal really deserved that game. They played out of their skins. Tis a shame it didn't work out for them.

I remember playing a team at high school who, in the penalty shoot-out, put their best penalty taker 5th. We won before then and he never took one. I remember thinking that was the dumbest thing I'd ever seen and no adult team would ever make such a moronic mistake.

Oh, Portugal.

It really is. I did start watching the odd game with my old flatmates in Christchurch. To be honest I haven't met many people who are all that bothered about it. Punx.

The Oly Whites game against Belarus has to be one of the least defensive games an NZ national team has played.

I reckon there were parts of that first half that were the best soccer I've ever seen a New Zealand team play. The one-touch passing through the centre was brilliant - shame they didn't then go wide for the likes of Rojas and Barbarouses to have clear runs on goal...instead they kept it central as the wide defenders came in and choked it up.

Not convinced by O'Keefe in goal. Seems like a big step down from Paston/Moss to the youngsters, but I guess that's always the case with goalkeepers.

We feel a little fragile in the midfield on defence - teams seem able to walk through there quite easily. But Nelsen and Smith make a pretty formidable pair at the back. If a defensive midfielder emerges from somewhere, we might be looking at a hell of an All Whites team in a few years' time when these guys all get into their mid- and late-twenties.

Brazil and Egypt both look out of the Oly-Whites league, though...those games could be a bit punishing.
