Well done the Phoenix and Yellow Fever, definitely the most vocal group in the A League.

Other than that was a pretty shit weekend for football. Celtic cancelled (along with pretty much every other match) and slept in and missed St Pauli.

Blackburn v West Ham was boring as fuck aside from Nelsen's goal.

Phoenix in the playoffs!!!!
http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/4 ... t-halftime
fuckin awesome game, arrived late and lost usual seats near Yellow Fever which makes drunken excited behavior more permissable, so got weirdlooks from families allot when celebrations were made, but what a game...
Vukovic knocking in the penalty on the last minute was incredible. He nearly scored of a goal kick a few weeks ago when it bounced off the crossbar, but him knocking it in the net in the las minute of stoppage time was awseom, the aussie cunt who caused the penalty was red carded aswell,
oi oi up the phoenix

Terry has relinquished his license of the 'Nix. New owners, WelNix, headed by Rob Morrison, Gareth Morgan and a few other prominent businessmen.

License is for 5 years. Unfortunately no one asked anything on what happens after 5 years and the Wellington Phoenix's long term participation in the A League considering some opposition amongst AFC members.

Just watched the press conference. The new consortium seem solid, only issue would be regarding transferring staff and players contracts from Terry's Century City Football, previous license holder, to the new entity and if there is any back pay they are owed. I think it will show some good will to cover players and staff, rather than let them join the queue of other creditors. I don't envisage anything too flashy, i.e. spending up to Salary Cap and probably not using any of the 3 marquee slots available unless, as is the case with Harry Kewel in Oz at the moment, a marquee player can generate enough interest beyond the already captured audience and u23 marquee to hold onto promising youngsters with potential sell on value.

Of most interest to me will be to see stance the entity takes on player development, in the short term it still seems that national youth league participation in Australia is not an option and I would like to see last years Phoenix development side taken further with more games. Also nothing asked on any progress regarding Phoenix's possible participation in Asian Champions League.

So the A-league season has kicked off, and the pride and joy of wellington, The Phoenix played the Gold Coast utd. last night. we got a stunner of a goal early on in the first half. It soon became apparent that our fitness level needs improvement, we even ran out of subs with the surplus of injuries. Paston made several fuckin amazing saves, and to be honest with out him, we probably wouldnt of come away with a 1-1 draw. But to be honest, a draw is pretty damn good considering the pre season dramas. Good on em, and i cant wait for the home game this sat against the Newcastle Jets!.
Up the phoenix, up the N.S.E ...and who the fuck is Rojas?

Yeah, it looks like the squad depth is going to be sorely tested in the next couple of months.

I thought the 'Nix played pretty well. And yeah, Paston (again) had a blinder.

I think the Phoenix have got to be happy with an away draw to open, given their shithouse travelling form last year. Shame to come so close to a win and not grab it, but still a solid start.

yeah ur right dude, gold coast had a pretty good pre season run also, so a draw is pretty solid. We always perform pretty well at home, so if the phoenix smash out a victory this weekend (and with Ifill looking a bit stronger this season, that looks quite possible), we should be off to a good season.

Kenny Dalglish insists Saturday's derby with Manchester United is merely a chance for Liverpool to move within three points of their title rivals.

From ferguson

"The only game that can rival United-Liverpool is Rangers-Celtic."

Ferguson added: "I have always considered it to be the game of the season in English football.

Sounds like a derby to me and if the king insists it's a derby then it's a derby. either way anyone beating the scum is considered a good result for all.

I don't think that's right. A derby is between teams from the same area - a 'local derby'. So, Liverpool v Everton, Arsenal v Tottenham, Manchester United v Manchester City, etc.

But yeah, big game...hope Liverpool can take it. Because, well, fuck United.

Pretty restrained first half, Liverpool shading it so far, but it's always that last ten minutes when United are dangerous...

Has been called the north west derby and also the lancashire derby given the cities are about 30 miles from each other. Either way it was a quiet first half then a cracker of a second half. Stevie G is back and looks to be at full strength. You were bang on about united also. Disappointing end though as I thought we outplayed them and deserved it. Still a point will have to do. Damn scum.

Good game for the phoenix today. Not so sure about the ref and his willingness to give out red cards. Tim Brown's was just ridiculous.

Both red cards were mental, yeah. And if Ifill is out, the Phoenix are screwed in Perth. They were short of depth at the best of times, but this is going to really bugger them. A shame, because it would be the best time to nail an away win and go top of the table with some tough matches to follow.

"THE REFEREES A WANKER"

The Yellow Fever zone alone was louder than the whole of Eden Park on Sunday. Good work

What I saw of the second half against Perth, the nix strung together a lot of nice passes. Greenacre really needs to watch his offsides.

Freaky how Smeltz scored at the same time as the French try.

Hopefully Man U. get more drubbings this season.

I enjoyed that Manchester game more than the Rugby World Cup Final. I liked the cutting between Rooney having a little paddy on the field to Alex Ferguson chewing gum and going red-faced as the goals kept coming.
