'Trapped In A Scene: UKHC 1985-1989' Book Due In September

Image
"Trapped In A Scene: UKHC 1985-1989", a new book by renowned British author Ian Glasper, documents the history of the British hardcore scene. Weighing in at well over 250,000 words and with over 200 exclusive photos included, it is a must for anyone interested in the '80s British underground.

Amazon.com's description of the book reads as follows: "The underground hardcore scene of the mid-to-late 1980s was U.K. punk rock's last significant creative gasp. Emerging from the wreckage of the anarcho-punk scene spawned by the likes of CRASS and CONFLICT, it took its influences from the studs 'n' leather punk bands of the early 1980s such as DISCHARGE and GBH. These bands pushed musical boundaries into new avenues of extremity, helping to shape the alternative music scene of today. 'Trapped In A Scene' is the long-awaited closing volume of Ian Glasper's celebrated trilogy on the U.K. punk scene of the 1980s."

Due on September 7 via Cherry Red Books, "Trapped In A Scene: UKHC 1985-1989" features the following artists, among others:

Hopefully it will come with a DVD like his other two books, Burning Britain and The Day The Country Died.

Is it just me, or did these bands overall have way cooler names than US '80s HC? Eg:
AXEGRINDER
CONCRETE SOX
COWBOY KILLERS
DOOM
HAYWIRE
HELLBASTARD
HERESY
RIPCORD
SLEEP

It's hard to lump thes bands with the "Hardcore" tag as most of them like Axegrinder, Deviated Instinct, Concrete Sox, Hellbastard etc... are way more metal influenced than punk.

Dunno if I agree with that. But whether or not you're lumping them in with hardcore, I still think the UK punk/HC/crust bands in the 80s had way fuckin cooler names than the US, even though I prefer the latter. I mean 'Axegrinder' for fuck's sake! What sort of awesome cunts call their band fuckin 'AXEGRINDER'?!

Swap D&D for Jihad and add a few illicit drugs into that mix and you've pretty much summed up everyone who taught me all I know about being a dero as cunt in the glory days of mid-90's Palmy.

Looks pretty amazing although I would agree with sean that some of those bands were very metal.

(I just went to 3 metal festivals in a row and am very metalled out. I did get to see Napalm Death though who were suprisingly good even though it felt out of context to see them at a festival along with 25,000 people. Seeing Black Dahlia Murder and Vader in the forest deep in Barvaria made more sense.)
