Lets get back to books, huh?

This is me currently:
Image

I originally read SHOGUN ages ago (and more than a couple times since) and on the strength of that I collected the rest of his "Asian Saga" from Op Shops. Finally getting into reading them in chronological order. If a thing is worth doing, and all that. Most of them are 1200 page monstrocities so doing the set kept on getting pushed back by Terry P and stuff like that. I'm the sort of guy who likes to bust out a series in quick succession if possible. Stupid almost OCD like behavior.

Now this one, I really liked. Chemistry between the leads was palpable, defo the best out of the three made so far. I liked the cartoon versions of Wyrd Sisters and Soul Music too, Christopher Lee, best DEATH ev0r.

Holy fuck, time for a re-watch, Charles Dance as Vetinari?!! Vetinari is like, my most fuckable fictional character *EVS*

fuck me, i had no idea of its existence, downloading now

same deal with the colour of magic... thats gotta be a cgi orgy, i hope its not too hokey, have their been any with vimes?

a lot of the more recent ones are less fantastical, and altho they have dwarves and trolls etc, are much shorter on magical crap, easier filmmaking im guessing.

ive read the pelican brief, i think, the one where the kid pulls the hose from the fat dudes exhaust stopping his suicide attempt.

it was pretty ok i guess, the movie was exactly the same, which must be nice.

halfway thru going postal, for all its many flaws i think i like it.
a lot of plot changes, missing characters, nowhere near as funny, and mr gryle is hugely shit.

but its still ok, is barely a shadow of the book, but its not harry potter after all.

no idea how a ginger pulls off vetinari, but hes excellent, was disappointed to see a regular chessboard in place of a thud board tho, its a real game...

i guess im a pretty massive geek cos theres a lot of detail i could complain about, hokey as fuck costumes for a start, but at least it didnt get the hollywood treatment.

overall i give it a thumbs up

I think you've got to watch those adaptions with the fact they were made in with a lot of love and fuck all cash in Eastern Europe in mimd. I kinda hated The Colour of Magic because a fucking American hobbit as Twoflower highly offends me, but I think they did a good job overall and it was nice that David Jason was keen and is a massive fan. Hogfather sort of worked, though Teatime was infuriating. Going Postal is the best of them all - reckon they actually got it together at last and there's a good chance the next one will maintain that level of decency. I'd really like them to try something with the Lancre witches.

But lets be honest here, the best part of Pratchett's books is actually reading them and imagining the characters yourself. Seeing them on screen and having film makers attempt to interpret the jokes and plots is never going to work as well as that mans ability to bash out scenarios with words.

Yeah, gota suspend a bit of belief, lol, ginger Vetinari, yeah, not too much of a stretch to Tywin Lannister, love me some Charles Dance. And detail, yeah, but it's tv, you can't get it all in there. I thought the casting was good, I *really* wanted to see them two have a pash by the end. Gona have to steal it up for a rewatch.

DIANA RIGG FOR GRANNY WEATHERWAX :o I like them adaptations, but it's a whole nother level of suspension of belief, eh. I'm fucking *attached* to those characters, I *know* these characters intimately, they're never gona get them perfect. Like, ha, Phil, the Angua girl on that show? FUCKING SERGEANT ANGUA!!! That's not what she looks like :(

Well, clearly none ov youse cunts are trve kvlt Discworld fans

http://www.themarysue.com/discworld-watch-show-in-production/

Sourcery: Terry Pratchett has stated that Sourcery will be the fifth discworld novel to be adapted for Sky One, although he initially wanted to adapt Making Money. However, he thinks it may work better as a film and he can have fun with characters like *Nijel the Destroyer.
The Watch crime series. Prime Focus Productions are going to produce a crime-a-week drama set in Ankh-Morpork.

Unseem Academical was supposed to be in production as well. Shame about Making Money.

Yeah... nah, you should have a read on the wiki about the previous efforts to work with studios to adapt the books. It's much, much better off the way they're doing them now. They wanted to cut out Death, for fucks sake!

I found it the most readable and illuminating history of NZ I've tackled (apart from prehuman history accounts, which are much cooler)

i didnt get past the foreword before i started reading clan of the cave bear, il probably go back to it tho, but i really need something light and amusing right now, so i might dig up pratchetts making money, since i recently watched the dumb movie of going postal, hopefully the book will make me feel better about the whole thing.

i was doing some reading about the moriori recently, which referenced kings book, il need to read it myself cos everybody has being saying that king debunked the political idea that moriori were a separate race absorbed by the maori, which is true, but they without exception gloss over the particulars of how the moriori came to be so different, i feel sorry for the moriori people, reduced to nothing but a political football.

yeh, i first had the book read to me when i was 7 years old, and i read it again in my teens, (which actually piqued my interest in wild food/medicine and drugs) but now reading it im kinda like 'hang on a minute m8' about a lot of it, its no different to reading any fiction tho, she had to make a lot of stuff up like any historical fiction writer, it was written over 30 years ago, so a lot of what she thought she knew about neanderthals we now know to be wrong, but the same will be true in another 30 years i would say, so whatever, i still like it.
