I read Mr Nice a few years ago. Impressive dude but shit what a noter. I found it to be a lot of 'oh look how awesome I am and look at cool I must have been to meet aaaall these famous people'. Fair enough though I guess, he was a drug smuggler not a writer.

I'm reading the new league of extraordinary gentlemen -the black dossier. Was reading the bone people by kerry hulme but it's been sidelined for this piece of graphic novel genius. The history of the characters moulded to fit to true and fictional significant happening through time a literature while being chased by the brittish secret service. Heaps of amazing dirty drawings and a bonus pair of 3D glasses! Last few pages are all 3D enhanced. Most excellent.

Have been trying to read Thus Spoke Zarathustra for months but I don't have time to actually sit down and think about what I'm reading so I never get more than a chapter at a time. Bloody philosophers.

Also tried to read The Siege of Eternity by Fredrick Pohl but got bogged down with uni work...

Seems I only have time for comics these days.

getting my stride on halfway through 'Their Eyes Were Watching God', by Zora Neale Hurston. Have to read it for uni, it's heavy going with the dialogue "Ah ain't seen nobody round heeyah fo while, shuh!" Seminal black female writer. My copy has an 'Opah Winfrey Presents..." sticker on the front [bandwagon harpy]. I'm enjoying bits of it though - mainly about how marriage fucking sucks

i've been saving the next up for my sydney holiday - On the Road, Jack Kerouac. Modern classic etc etc, tried reading it years and years ago but it wasn't the right time. Enjoyed the first three pages "we tiptoed around each other like heartbreaking new friends" is a nice line.

A] Oh my god it changed my life
B] I am so crushingly bored
C] There is nothing left in the world to discover but crushing apathy
D] Meh.

The Pope and the Witch by Dario Fo. Gotta power though that tomorrow as I've gotta do a review of it for my tech on Friday. If it's as good as Fo's other stuff it should be pretty sweet.
The annotated Alice. Kinda wish I hadn't started reading this, as I didn't know Lewis Carol may or may not have been a paedofile and has kind of ruined my enjoyment of the Alice books now but it has some pretty interesting stuff in it about the context of when the stories were written and shit behind them and that.

I was planning on reading Mr Nice or Senor Nice shortly. His wife does mention getting a ride in Tommy Iommi's car and hoping people she knows see her with him. Nigel Havers is also mentioned because he had a child at the same school and there was a parent's race. It was shortly after he starred in Chariots of Fire. I think some film director is also mentioned but really they're only mentioned in passing.

Had this with For Whom the Bell Tolls, dug everything else I've read by Hemingway but couldn't get into it for some reason. Gave up after the first 1/3.

I am halfway through 'Three Men In A Boat' again. Posh Englishmen being funny cunts in the 18th century = goodtimes. Have been lent the Swedish version of 'The Kite Runner' but a bit wary of it given that everyone I know that has read it has breathlessly ranted about how amazingly good it was and how they couldn't put it down, and blah blah blah, and the last time that happened was with 'The Da Vinci Code'. :/

Just finished Orwell's Collected Essays - mean. As the blurb says, "Anyone who wants to understand the 20th Century will have to read Orwell". Perceptive bugger, that man.

Lords of Chaos (revised edition) - hilarious, sad, tragic... I've read this a couple of times now, and I really, really struggle to see how people took a bunch of socially inept, bitter teenagers so fucking seriously. Then again, I've met black metal fans, so I'm probably talking shit and ignoring the fact that unbalanced, socially isolated losers are always attracted to over-hyped nonsense like this. Ulver sum everything up quite nicely in about 2 paragraphs.

You muse be looking forward to the film version of Neuromancer currently in production starring, uh, Hayden Christiansen.

My current read: Deeper by Jeff Long. It's the sequel to The Descent about the discovery of a series of caves under the Earth occupied by mutants that are the origin of all legends like Hell, vampires, etc. Satan is a bloke whose mutation enables him to move bodies and so never die - endless life equals a whole shitload of knowledge equals a crapload of power.

Just finished Time out of Joint by Phillip K. Dick, kinda cool, but the pay-off leaves a bit to be desired. Also read Confessions of a Cineplex Heckler by Joe Qeenan, which is like reading a book of (slightly more conservative) Mutante rants and, although a little repetitive, was pretty classic. Don't entirely agree with his taste though.

Now reading 'And They All Sang' by Studs Terkel, pretty cool interviews with an eclectic range of musicians. A bit out of my depth with some of it, don't know jack about Opera, but good read nonetheless.
