Same...what actually was it?
'I Like It When You Die' is the fourth album by American grindcore band Anal Cunt. The album was originally titled You're Gay, and the album cover was going to contain a mirror, but this idea was later changed

Seemed like the RnV types were starting to get into it this year, stringlets and pastel shorts everywhere, drunks practically headbutting each other in the crowd @ Real Estate was pretty funny given the radius of people cringing around them.

Went concussed, left early, missed Bailterspace zzzzz.

I just don't get it.

I didn't know one band on the line up, from what I'm aware they don't get discussed on these forums, which presumably means I wouldn't like it. From what I'm aware it's some form of "hipsteresk"(?) music - either synthie computer stuff? or jangly alt-country/folk rock? or lots of stomping down strum noise?

I assumer I wouldn't like it?

Do a lot of people actually like this stuff, or is it just because it's a festival and people choose to like what they are given? Is it really worth $135+++?

What am I missing?

Not sure about this year's lineup, but I'm pretty sure a few punkas dudes would be into Echo & the Bunnymen and some cross-over acts
Not into them then, but I would have liked to see Florence & the Machine few years ago, probably would have preferred to see their own gig tho

I've been to three of the four events.

2010: First year was very poorly organized held in Britomart which was a shit venue, bar areas were separate and you could only drink in the designated bar area (basically warm lion red in a cage). Enjoyed Dirty Three, 3D's, Daniel Johnston and Black Lips.

2011: Held in Aotea square which in my opinion has been the best venue so far. Bar situation was much improved and could drink anywhere within the square and queues were minimal. Watched Blonde Redhead and Deerhunter then left to meet some pals at wine cellar for a drink.

2012: Terrible lineup, did not attend.

2013: Held at Silo park which i think is a shit venue, the smaller stage was OK but the main stage had no atmosphere whatsoever. Thoroughly enjoyed The Men, A Place To Bury Strangers and Japandroids. Watched one song from Bailterspace but left because the crowd really was awful and the queue's for beer/wine were a nightmare.

went along to catch Japandroids and Bat For Lashes. arrived in time to see The Men, didn't think too much of it. Got grumpy. Decided the wine lines were the way to go due to being shorter, and downed a couple of redbull-and-pinot-gris-s. got a buzz, which helped for A Place to Busy Strangers. thought they great, which was cool seeing I thought they were shit from waht little I'd heard.

Japandroids were great.

then I wandered around for a bit, bumping into peeps and getting a stolen flannel off skeetnigguh. Saw bits of Yeasayer, didn't really give a shit.

Bat For Lashes were fucking rad.

Then I crashed watching Tame Impala. Tired, hungry and surly. hated that band. should've left there.

Overall, it was worth it for the two acts I wanted to see, and for the one i wasn't expecting to enjoy; however I don't know how much of that was the pinot talking

Haha.

I wasn't particularly keen to go, for the fact that I'm saving for a trip to Vietnam, and that few acts interested me (The Men, Bailterspace, A Place To Bury Strangers, and maybe Japandroids). Pretty keen on The Men. Mostly 'Leave Home' though - that album is fucking mean. Can't stand Lame Imp Parlour or Alternative-J because they get played at work a kazillion times a day.

Went the first year and enjoyed it... Daniel Johnston, Black Lips, Echo & The Rabbitohs, Dirty Three... Missed The 3Ds unfortunately...

Preach.

I wouldn't have gone this year if The Men had played their own shoe.

yeah the men were a let down due to the kinda lack of energy. a place to bury strangers were fucking sick tho. bailterspace were also a probable highlight. tame impala were actually real fucking sweet too.
