I worked as a kitchen hand for a year and a half in high school. Depends on who you work with, it can be alright / shitas. Learnt a lot of good skills though, so time well spent.

Re: Being a kitchen hand
Its a fucking great Job!
You get to come in at 10am, wash all the breakfast shit, eat free bacon and go home at 12. you then get to come back to work at 5:30pm and wash all the dinner shit until 10pm, then spend half an hour mopping the floors and taking the rubbish out. go home at 10:30. rinse and repeat.
that was my lot, had 4 chefs in the kitchen I was in. constant full-on stress merchants. Mind you, I would be too if "I put together a sophisticated 4-star menu, and these cunts come in and order steak, eggs and fucking chips!" was a common phrase around the place...

Re: Being a kitchen hand
Hrm, I used to do cook/kc for corporate functions, show up at 4-5pm, help prep dinner, then clean cooking dishes, then wait until everyone is full and drunk and clean a few hundred plates and shit once the function ends (10-12pm) then clean everything else and try fuck off before 3am

Most jobs suck that's why they pay you to do it. Shit like kitchen hand etc is good because you aren't taking work home with you. Jobs you can just turn up and do your shit and leave are all good by me.

I would take it if I was in Welly, cooking fucking rulz.
Re: Being a kitchen hand
If you cunts are looking for someone late Jan/early Feb I'd be keen. Depends if I get into Uni though. Always be keen for the odd shift though.
I was back washing dishes at the end of last year. Wouldn't have met my fiance if she hadn't seen me there. It's a sweet job. Sucks doing it for more than a few months at a time, my back is old and creaky and doesn't put up with abuse like it used to, but I love high stress jobs. I'm hyperactive, in a fast job, by the time you can think, you're done. Glad I've got other shit on my resume these days though.
Thread reminded me to text the cafe I'm meant to try out at next week.
Can't wait to do something fancy though. Be nice to create my own job instead of working in someone elses. I don't mind helping a kitchen run, cooking or doing dishes, waiting tables, or doing call centre shit (as long as it's not sales), but it'd be nice to own my job, to have complete faith in my reason for doing it, above money, and to enjoy it and get satisfaction from it.
*sigh*

backed hard, I'd totally forgotten about how nice it was to have a job that finished when you went home, and wouldn't ring you up or show up whenever they needed something. Responsibility sucks.

also mmm bacon
