Been drinking some on special $5.99 wine from the local iga. It's so good compared to my regular shite. Will post the name when i remember. Will probably get judged for my lack of tastebuds.

Dan, if you're into white wine Aldi are gonna have 3 Tales Marlborough Sauv Blanc soon, hot tip from head office!

Haiku, I'm not tech on the wines I just deliver it!

Image

Reds L-R, Sero Merlot Sangiovese, Bancroft Bridge Cab Merlot, Deen Cab Sauv, McLaren Vale Shiraz, DBHV09 Nouveau Shiraz, 2010 Barossa Shiraz, Willowglen Petite Worship, Deen Petite Sirah, Windy Peak Pinot Noir, Bella Rica Sangiovese Merlot.

Image

Whites: L-R, sparkling surprise, Emeri Chardonnay Pinot Noir, Deen De Bortoli Verdelho, Sacred Hill Semillon Chardonnay, Deen De Bortoli Sauvignon Blanc, Bella Riva Pinot Grigio Vermentino, Gulf Station Pinot Grigio and Windy Peak Pinot Grigio.

That red wine photo is blurry as fuck, I might have to drink a bottle and take another one so it comes out clear.

we used to stop by the cellar door for a case whenever we went down to see the fam in stratford. winery is between new plymouth and inglewood. they have a decent range of other fruit wines too.

try the mill - given that they were originally a taranaki thing you can often find it there. both the pak'n'save and countdown have it at near me too [hamilton]

honestly - you won't want to touch stones again.

Hot dinner, is that the same as a "hot lunch"? You know, when someone shits in your mouth during intercourse?

Fucking hell. A local diary when I was a kid had a rack of seedy porn tapes for hire on fairly prominent display at the back and I remember one of them was called Hot Lunch. 20 odd years later I finally realise the full horror of it all.

Re: Drinking wine

Postby General Mutante » Sat Apr 13, 2013 4:00 pm

I have decided to revive this thread because there is other piss apart from beer.

Had a bottle of Wolfblass Eaglehawk Cab Sav the other night. 2011, a year that started out well and went nightmarishly wrong and saw me in psychotherapy after a fistful of pills and too much vodka. Hence a lengthy period of abstinence. But what better way to celebrate such a mind fuck of a year than with a bottle of wine that was like being punched in the face by a giant bunch of angry grapes.

It tasted pretty good. I'm usually a merlot drinker and this was a bit more of a mellow, savoury taste with a hint of spice to it. Not quite as acrid smelling as the shit I usually drink. But by the gods did it fuck me up, and I have no idea why. It was 13.5% just like my standard poison. It was payday and I'd shouted myself a steak dinner earlier for my weekly treat so it's not like I had an empty stomach. I ended up being unable to concentrate on the film I was watching, spewed a whole lot of verbiage here and elsewhere before finally losing coherence and woke up at tennish the next day, walking to the train station still mildly intoxicated despite a shower, black coffee and several cigarettes.

Maybe it was the tormented energies of 2011 CE coming back to haunt me in fermented form, or maybe I'm on the verge of major organ failure. Either way, would trade again.

And that, was wine today. My reviews are way better than that prat in the Listener.

Not exactly wine, but I've wanted to find this for a while... Haven't seen it for ages. Anyone in AK know if it's still around? Last I remember it was ~$10.

I have just about polished off a bottle of Fat Bird, suspiciously described only as "vintage red". It's a nice drop though, and I never get a hangover from it. It's the school night liver punching juice of choice for that reason alone. I accompanied it with a custom made pizza, allegedly meaningful verbiage and the Muppet Show.

Quite sweet with a syrupyness not dissimilar to port, if you want to get well and truly written off but also stay awake then look no further than this little beauty. Made by monks, drank by punks.

So many bottles of White Cliff / Stoneleigh Pinot Noir last night. Think I'm still drunk, it's no tonic wine but they're tasty nonetheless.

Have been getting foreign IP technical meeting participants into Hawkes Bay Sav Blancs and Otago Pinots. I have successfully turned the South Africans and the Canadian, and if I ever visit either countries, I have been assured of wine tours :)

As a country we're actually quite good at Pinot. Pass me another bottle; try to head off the inevitable.
