Whatever you do don't buy 'Sweet As' apple cider.

That shit is way to sweet.

..Spose at least you can't say it's false advertising.

the macs cider is definatly better than the monteiths, macs is just the right sweetness without being over-powering.

The best thing about the Monteith's one is it can be found on tap at several establishments.

That Stone's alcoholic Ginger Beer is nice too, bit over priced though.

This is a small batch cider that shows all the hallmarks of a traditionally brewed, finely crafted cider - smooth, crisp with a hint of kiwi flavour and ingenuity.
It's made from 100% Granny Smith Apples and crafted in a medium-dry style. Typical Granny Smith aromas and subtle honeycomb characters make Weka Apple Cider a very easy cider to drink.

Sounds delicious. Unfortunately they'll be wanting around $90 for a dozen I imagine. I'll stick to Scrumpy.

Jay has found a source for Moa Poppet that isn't too badly priced... something like $3 less a bottle than Glengarry are selling it for, which prices it at not ridiculously more than Scrumpy - definitely a decent value proposition there, but I agree that at regular pricing you'd want to be loaded before drinking a lot of it.

The Moa Weka was cheaper than the Monteith's when I bought it recently from the Realm bottley in Wellington.

If you are just looking for a cheap drink, you used to be able to get chinese cooking wines from asian supermarkets... shit's probably cheaper than scrumpy, just sayin' ;)

It's just difficult coming back from Shanghai where it's 80c NZ for a quart bottle of Tsingtao at any dairy or corner store at any time of day or night. Niggaz be gettin used to that shit.. just sayin ;).

Generally I would agree General. I think Mac's bar just sticks out, as The outdoorsy bit kind-of gives you the feeling of a backyard, and the clientele there are almost entirely made up of stripy shirt wankers that work in sales.

Is that the place with the booths outside, raised up from the bar itself? I thought it was a pretty mean bar....of course im still of the opinion that I can watch TV while i drink at home.

umm.. kind of. i think that roughly describes it. the other side of the bar has a raised floor with seats so you can sit at the bar and still be at the same eye level as if you were standing on the other side. it's pretty mean. aside from the retarded shabby-chic approach (mismatched furniture, inverted lampshades etc, which look like they came from Fly By Night next door), it's a pretty nice area inside. and those drinks were free, so i'm finding it harder to scorn a bar who has yet to rape me $8+ for a tap beer.

currently drinking an Isaac's Cider now. funnily enough, way better from the bottle than from a tap.

these all sound delish. Do any of them carry warnings about their preservatives? Harvest & Scrumpy use sulphite preservatives which are very bad for some of their customers...
