Re: drinking beer
didnt know about panhead, but as soon as emersons was sold to lion i assumed DB would make a run at one of the others, thought tuatara would be their first pick, mustve taken a few years to convince them.

Re: drinking beer
It's a bit frustrating cause on the one hand I don't wanna see a beer I like get turned to shit by a company only looking to make a buck. On the other, you wanna see people who've worked hard at their shit get paid for it right? Still, they presumably were doing ok prior to the sale. They're one of the biggest right?

Re: drinking beer
+1 Murray's comment, plus if you're actually into beer you probably aren't drinking much Tuatara anyway. We're spoiled for choice in terms of decent breweries/microbreweries now so I don't think this will change much of anything.
Stopped in at North End Brewing / Salt & Wood in Waikanae last weekend for the first time. I am fucking OBSESSED with their Salt & Wood La Mure (Sour wheat beer using blackberries from Te Horo). It's super cheap to buy their beer there! I recommend stopping in if you're passing through. It's only 50m from SH1. I didn't intend on getting takeaways, but...

Re: drinking beer
Yeah pretty much agree with all above
especially re salt and wood and La Mure. Had mixed feelings come back to NZ and craft beer - certainly seems to be more available than I left, but a bit disapointed that things seem to be a bit stuck on hoppy xpa's etc still.
I guess we're getting on the sour/farmhouse train now...? Yum, but. etc #something

Re: drinking beer
Nice. Glad other people know of and appreciate it as well. La Mure was honestly my favourite NZ beer of 2016.

That's a lot of sours I should have gotten in on. I'm all about wheat beers, and especially sours. Fuck.

Re: drinking beer
Hmm. Know any NZ breweries other than North End that do a lot of sours off the top of your head, J? I'd be keen to order a bunch from somewhere online if possible.

$10 for 4*440ml cans! great memory phil. I never liked beer until i tried an ardennes sometime in my early 20s. its not all fancy round here tho, ive probably had more kingfisher strong cans this year than any other beer so far.
i remember, cos at that time i didnt drink bourbon and coke, and you and/or Al had left a couple in Chrissy's car, i tried, and i think failed to drink one, i remember that it just tasted awful to me.
ironically was drinking woodstocks when i posted the above... what have i become?
my most commonly absorbed beer is haagen these days, haagen strong or kingfisher strong, and the tall haagan green cans, two strongs and a sixpack is a decent nights drinking i reckon.
either that or a 6pack of coopers stout, i would prefer to drink the good shit, but honestly, its quantity over quality for me.

My supermarket beer is Tsingtau - it doesn't taste like much but it doesn't make me ill like barley beer does these days

Re: drinking beer
Thanks a lot. I agree the 8 Wired feijoa sour is really very nice! I got a few of those from Glengarry on Hutt Road. There's a surprisingly good selection in that place... I love sours that are actually sour - was very disappointed by Funk Estate 'Jungle Boogie' Blood Orange Sour, and a lot of the chardonnay barrel sours or whatever they are for that matter, but I'm always keen to try another of Shiggy's creations. Panhead Fruit Loop was delicious but I only managed to get 1 bottle of that. I will be seeking out a few of these for sure. Thanks again.
Re: drinking beer
Tried Brothers cherry sour the other day, it was ok I guess, but for a sour/cherry beer it was really disappointing, really bland

you sound surprised? Brothers Beer is gateway at best...
Re: drinking beer
Sure, but I thought if they bothered to do a sour they'd make it a liiiiitle bit sour.

Re: drinking beer
Nothing worse than a bland sour. Valhalla took La Mure off tap because not enough people were buying it. "Too sour" apparently. At Punkfest he was selling 'snakebites' for cheap which was La Mure mixed with cider to tone the sour back a notch. Cracked me up.
I had a couple bottles of 8 Wired's Hippy Berliner. Strong citrus smell and flavour. After taste of pineapple maybe. Pretty zesty. I thought it could be more sour, but the sweet to sour ratio is good. Would buy again.

Re: drinking beer
Drank two tall boys of Coopers green in the sun athe dog park after work today. I hate the dog park, the regulars have an odd social click i have no interest in. I want my dog to socialise, i dont feel the need to do so myself. So i drank beer with my house mate and talked about exchange rates. TRUE STORY. interesting? No. True, yes
Was the beer good? Oh my, very much so

Re: drinking beer
Going to be in NZ in a few weeks for a wedding, planning a night or two in Wellys to hit Garage Project and wherever. Then over the water for a few weeks in Nelson for Marchfest and heaps of fresh-hopped beers. Super excited, the NZ beer scene is revered by the Melbourne one, it's all pretty cute. And much cheaper

So there's a bit of a brewhaha about coopers sponsoring the bible society and this video. Video is pretty meh, but not really into companies that have a mission statement like this:

I consume Coopers on a regular basis. I was unaware of their ties to christianity. Generally ones religion doesn't phase me much as long as they aren't forcing it dogmatically upon others. It would appear that maybe Coopers deem certain behaviour unethical. I would like to meerly point out, that i regularly indulge in unchristian behavior, and quite often in a drunken stupor caused by Coopers products themselves. OoOOOh the irony.
