Still: feeling pretty good about Moa at the moment. They are downsizing their bottles / dropping their prices and so people might actually want to buy them now.

Nah. Instead of having those embossed 375mL bottles for $7+ a pop, they are dropping down to normal 330mLs and will be selling them for $5+ each. Which negates one of my biggest issues with the company: I do like much of their beer, but it's not quite good enough for me to buy it over Emersons who have 500mL bottles for a similar price. (Emersons is possibly a bad example here because I feel they are slowly going downhill - but you get the idea)

Got my hands back on a home brew kit me and some mates had running at high school. Keen to lay down some tasty brews, where to start, anyone care to point me in the direction of a decent online guide?

We used to just use shitty pre-mix stuff from the brew shop, mix it all up and voila etc. But this time around, at the risk of a lot of fuck ups, I'm keen to do as much from scratch as possible.

why use a eskie for the mash tun J? does it retain heat better than using silverware?

sweet bol. been watching a few videos on youtube about partial grain, going to get similar equipment (minus the outdoor burner) and have a hoon when I have enough empty bottles

could you use a second plastic fermenter for the mash? can hold 30L and has a tap at the bottom

Just bottled a small batch of my first attempt at a California common. Trying to get something similar to an anchor steam. Now time for a couple fat flak pale ales

You can mash in a fermentor in few ways. You need to be able to filter out the wort so just turning on the tap isnt an option as all the grain will come out too. Either get another fermentor bucket and drill a shit load of small holes (around 2-3mm) in it. This will act as a filter or mash screen if you want to use the prope term.

Or there are other ways to make some kind of filter. Cut a piece of stainless or food grade plastic out and make some legs for it and use this as a mash screen, or get one of those braided pipes used in plumbing, pull the pipe out seal one end and hook the other up to your tap.

Or you can brew in a bag. I did this for a while, sometimes messy but always worked. Put all of your grain in a huge muslin bag you can get from a brew shop. This way you can either do it in a pot or a fermentor. With the pot you can turn the heat back on if needed.
