'I Like It When You Die' is the fourth album by American grindcore band Anal Cunt. The album was originally titled You're Gay, and the album cover was going to contain a mirror, but this idea was later changed

Day ham, looks pretty good...

Made a mean beef and stout pie at the weekend, using chuck steak and shin. Coasted beef in a dusting of seasoned flour, browned in butter, removed. Threw in a couple of chopped onions, carrots, then about 350mL Coopers stout, stock, south island thyme, salt & pepper etc. Cooked slow over about 3 hours. Blind baked short pastry base, chucked in the filling (after letting it cool), chucked some flakey puff pastry on top, biffed the cunt in the oven for 30 mins and voila. Shit went down mean with some mushy peas and the rest of the stout. Coopers stout is excellent for cooking with. Didn't make my own pastry but will have a crack at that next time.

Had a heaven scent pie yesterday, chilli bean and cheese, $9. Was pretty good.

Pretty wanky cafe, so naturally my kind of place :P

I've come to accept Pie Face now, although Australia largely fails at pies. Except the pie and mash shop in Darwin but that's run by a proper Cockney geezer.

It's bizarre how shit Australia is at pies when they make the best cheap dairy/servo pies (Mrs Macs)

I find Mrs Macs too salty. And their sausage rolls taste and feel like recycled paper insulation. Also, Aussies call them Maggot Packs, hence probably why they're not so great.

In saying this, I forget the brand but there's a Foodworks in Melbourne that sell stunning dairy pies. Even the vege option (asparagus and cheese) is a beautiful piece of work.

I used to think before I moved here that Mrs Macs must've been the Big Ben $1 pie of Australia, oh how was I wrong, fucking things average at $4.50, still probably the best commercial pie though. Four and Twenty is minced so fine you can't tell where gravy ends and offal begins.

Yeah but sausage rolls are for sycophants and dullards. Shit always tastes like old cardboard.

On the contrary, fellow pie enthusiast. Sausage rolls can be rather delectable indeed. You just need to find the right one.

And I must say, I am quite the sucker for a spinach and ricotta filo.

Cafe Drina on the Shore has been making a decent lamb & roast veges pie for $6 lately. Beef one was alright too. They don't seem to make a lot of them though.

Monica's pies in Glenorchy. On Fridays you can order mince and cheese or chicken, $5 delivered to your workplace at smoko. Bloody fantastic flakey pastry and filling. There are also giant blts, cookies, coffee and combos.

At home today having a Heaven Scent lamb & lentil pie. Bit fancy but, heaps of filling, a $9 pie actually worth $9 I'd say.

Quickfire pie reviews for 2014:

Cafe Mocha - mince & cheese, cheese was erupted on there quite well and sometimes stringy. On my way I bumped into donvito who was walking up the hill, but the miserable sucker was pieless. Cheese excitement, 6/10

Pies from award-winning place in Torbay - had bacon & egg, and something more beefy another time. Pretty damn decent, impressive puffy pastry though still a bit crumbly. 8.5/10

Columbus Coffee, Westfield Albany - had some sort of curry pie with salad on the side, delicious as. Would trade again, 8.5/10

Brumby's, Christchurch somewhere - had a beef & roast veges pie, not bad, could've had more filling. All over too soon, 7/10

Steak pie on the Arahura on the way to Picton - kiwi as pie with kiwi as sauce, almost mashed it to pieces with the tongs trying to get it from the pie oven. Who ate all the lamb pies/10

Eating dessert pies with no ice cream - trying to cut down on dairy products a bit so not a bad snack option, whatamidoingwithmylife/10
