lucky takeaways is shit as. especially the chips. infact you cant find a decent feed ANYWHERE down that part of new north. nanas roasts is rubbish, too.

Glen Eden Takeaways on West Coast Road owns all that city-fringe/Mt Eden shit. $2 chips means $3 chips, 4 potato fritters nets you at least an additional 3, and the batter is at least as thick as the fish. The way takeaways are supposed to be.

I generally try to avoid eating altogether when in Wellington, but when those hunger pangs get too much, I like to visit that filthy takeaway shop across from Valve. They do good chips.

that place in mission bay is a fucking rip off. tacky and glum looking and average food for unjustifiably high prices.

i can't actually think of any decent FnC places i've been to in auckland that are well priced in recent memory.

though the fish and chip meal i got at Imax was ok, and the 'fish' was cheap, not too greasy and came in this massive sheet.

was tough though. so was probably some very gnarled and feisty shark

i failed to visit Cuba kebabs on our last trip - gotta say, wellingtonians have the art of kebabs down to a tee

the first time i visited wellington in the last couple of years half my meals consisted of all the variants from cuba kebabs, and i had the healthiest shit of my life after it

There's a place on Marine Parade in Paraparaumu bout 100 metres south of the skatepark that do the best Garlic Chips ever, tasty as and also Ray's Pies and Fries on Kapiti Rd do some pretty alright chips and the best pies ever (good old Uncle Ray, cures my sudden urge for food everytime) Venison and Red Wine is pretty nice and they also have a Chicken and Banana flavoured one which sounds gross but when my friend offered to buy me one if i ate it.. well it was pretty nice.

aro st is the best chips in welly that ive had, and that one on the corner of willis and that street just down from aro is probably the worst, but the only place open on monday when aro is shut.

that greek place on cuba definately has some of the worst customer service ive ever seen at least one of the cunts there is a complete asshole, pretty much tried to pick a fight with me, some guy who was sitting there came to my rescue.. i mean you dont wanna argue witha guy cooking your food, he can spit in it.. like hes got your money now you want your food so you dont wanna piss em off, fuckin pricks, worse than those abrakebabra fuckwits, or fuckos as it may be.

nice fish there tho, but almost everywhere in welly has nice fish, bit pricey tho.

fishfins in newtown is pretty good, the owner guy is a bit of an odd duck but i love how he always gives you a few chips chips when you just got a piece of fish, aro does that too actually, nice people there.

starfish in newtown is possibly the winner on the night, cos they are open on the night, usually shut at about 1am i think, thank god for that place, and ive been in there with 80c and still got a halfscoop, fucking really awesome guys in there, totally legends, the fish is grosss tho chips just average.

ruban your constant attacks on the irish are sexual harrasment, i mean racism, if this keeps up im gunna tell on you and then you'l be sorry.

actually i love kumara chips, and kumara in genera,l potato while it has its charms is neither as yum nor as nutritional as kumara, kumara is just a better spud really.

but somehow the potato always manages to be YUM AS FUCK even tho its techniclaly not as good as kumara...

last night i was being told by someone that we eat european varietys of 'kumara' and not the native ones since they were too small for commercial growing.

hmm..
i am of the mind and the opinion that if something doesn't accept you,
you do everything in your power to fucking destroy it.
i don't care if it's the world, society, your family or a fucking high school
keg party.
you do everything you can to hit back...and strike back.
let go of some of that fucking hatred
i wanna poison this world the way it fuckin poisoned me.
i'm gonna to everthing, EVERYTHING in my power to corrupt, to twist, to
destroy, to rip apart, to poison.
i'm gonna spit my last breath in all your faces.
you're gonna hear me laughin at the end.

The place i went to in whiti today for a beef+bacon+brie burger and chips [$6.50 burger...$1 mean as scoop] was a a fucking winner...their mussels, scallops and chicken nuggets were a bit of a rip-off though.

Uncle Sams in the Swamp FTW. Chips are always fresh, and the owners while not being able to speak much english always give extra's in their packs. Also have a Street Fighter II arcade machine while you wait, sweet.

While in Taupo I'm always sure to grab a meal from Shane's Fresh Fish & Chip Co. on Acacia Bay Road. While quite expensive comparitively (probably still way cheaper than Auckland fare) their fish and chips are almost gourmet - you choose the species of fish and they batter it and fry it in front of you. Comes wrapped in nice brown paper too, no newsprint to be seen.

The fish and chip shop in Picton down on the water front was great the seafood was being loaded off a fishing boat and into the back door when we got there.

pity i live in Auckland fuck that was good shit.

John Chens in TeAtatu North used to do mean chips all made from peeled spuds none of that frozen Mr Chips shit.
Can anybody confirm they still do this?

i recommend this place in mt wellington. they have really awesome chips i dont know how they cok them but they are unlike any other chip in auckland. you must expirience the chip to know it. there is no explanation for this phenomenom. they also made me a tomato corn and onion toasted sandwich for me when i asked too.
Everywhere I went it felt like they were watching me; fish-white flesh puckered by the Highland breeze; tight eyes peering out for fresh meat; screechy, booze-soaked voices hollering out for a taxi to take ‘em halfway up the road to the next all-night watering hole. A shatter of glass; a round of applause; a sixteen-year-old mother of three vomiting in an open sewer, bairns looking on, chewing on potato cakes. I ain’t never going back… not never.

Hmmm no, well not for a coupla years and that was just to buy some Kinas.

Everytime I drive past the place is packed. But I'll stop off and try some next time I'm there.

Steer clear of Steves European and Chinese Takeaways for fish, it is rank as shit. They do good friend rice and burgers and chips though.

Also just completely avoid the hole in the wall place in Balmoral. You will feel sick no matter what you eat.

Bump. Get back to da fush & chups!

http://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/food- ... -battering

Being in the central city, I've tried very little since moving to Akld. Been to proper fish n chip shops less than once a year on average. I prefer Bilbo's out of the few places I've tried, been there a couple of times this year and it was just fine. Need to make it my mission to try some places further afield in 2015.

Best chip shop in Hamilton is the really grotty looking place (New Star?) on corner of Peachgrove and Clyde. Their onion rings are actually just a whole slice of onion battered and fried. more of an onion patty I guess, but holy fuck: so good. Lots of decent specialty vegan friendly hong kong dishes too.

Big 2 Takeaways by the new world in hillcrest is alright as well. Except they don't do onion rings. But it is closer. And the chips are amazing.
