All the talk about food got me thinking:
I've got a really good fish n chips place near my house. It's called Big Boy Takeaways I think.
It's on New North Road, the first hub of shops heading away from town past St Lukes Rd. It's across the road from a park with a playground. I don't eat fish n chips that often but I love this place. Really basic and cheap but good.
Also you've got to love the Burgerie on K-Road. You can get crumbed mushrooms, a real banana soy shake and other assorted vegie goodies.
I don't have any really bad places to talk about. Bilbos on Dominion Rd used to be awful, but Ost swears by it nowadays and it's been changed around quite a bit. Possibly new owners

The Ponsonby Road f&c is pretty nice. The one that wins awards everywhere. The peeps are friendly and the food is not completely oozing out with oil as most f&c does.
The one up at Leigh is fucking excellent. Garlic Chips!
There should be another thread about pies too. I had the best pie of my life in Oamaru and i hear there's one to die for in Warkworth somewhere!

I heard that Tanuki Cave has got a D rating and I've eaten shitloads of raw fish there and never been sick so they must be doing something right. I'll go back there.

the only fish n chips I've had since being in AK were from some place in Mission Bay and they were pretty good but cost heaps for not so much.. which is balls.

Well I was real hungry when I read Ruban's first post so I headed off to try and find the Fish n' Chip place on new North... I read the directions wrong but found 1 where i thought he meant.
'Lucky Takeaways' on New North. Fish n' chips weren't that special. they didn't suck. I also got Sweet n' Sour wontons. they were better and a decent price.

place opposite valve, open late, cheap.
yea bond st, going towards lambton quay etc

Has anybody been to the oyster farm chip shop in Ohope? That place is mean. They do battered fried oysters that are amazing on a good day. I always have to stop there. If you don't like oysters this place converts haters too. I've seen it happen.

Aro St chips are rad when they're hot, but they're fuckin dogshit once they start cooling down. haven't been there in ages.
All the fish'n'chip shops in Brooklyn are decidedly average. The best one just shut down actually. Oh well. Avoid the green FishnChip shop in Brooklyn, it looks the nicest, but after you eat their chips you'll be feeling a layer of grease on the inside of your mouth for hours.
