American Politics Thread AKA The FacePalm Thread

Postby Window Licker » Sat Jan 23, 2016 5:57 am

Donald Trump on Friday retweeted a message from a Twitter user with the handle @WhiteGenocideTM.

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/01/trump-neo-nazi-retweet-218113#ixzz3xzd1MBSI

This is the world we live in.

So what do you all reckon it'll be? Trump v Clinton? Bush v Clinton? Or possibly the greatest shit ever Trump v Sanders???

My bubble makes sanders and trump both seem very popular to there respective teams, but don't want to get my hopes up for sanders/terrified at the possibility of trump

I would have hoped they learnt their lesson with the last Bush. Trump is going to make him look like Gandhi in comparison.

Posting on reddit means that it is very hard to ignore Sanders. He is everywhere. And I can see why people like him, and if I was over there I would be furious at Clinton being forced down our throats. Their democratic process is thin enough as it is without that circus.

Going back to Sanders - where do you think he would fall in with our MPs? Is he "right" to John Key or would he fit somewhere in the middle of of spectrum?

American political parties all lean extremely to the right in terms if you look at it internationally, where as NZ parties are all pretty left. I'd say that Clinton is politically to the right of John Key for sure. Sanders possibly too. I haven't really looked into it all too much, but I was asking for a quick opinion from someone who is a little bit more interested in the whole thing.

Behold, the Sarah Palin speech generator: http://liberalbias.com/auto-palin/
'I Like It When You Die' is the fourth album by American grindcore band Anal Cunt. The album was originally titled You're Gay, and the album cover was going to contain a mirror, but this idea was later changed

As Lurch said, American parties are generally further to the right than NZ, even when comparing democrats to TNP, so I can understand why Sanders left/socialist tendencies would be questioned as they seem sort of too good to be true. I really hope he does get elected.

If we can't elect a Greens government here then it seems like Saunders has no real chance in the States. They can't even provide universal healthcare to look after the people hurt by the guns they refuse to ban.

But if it was two horse race: [best green leader] vs [worst possible national leader]...then maybe greens would have a chance

Nandos vs ......Actually, who's the equivalent of trump in NZ? Henry? Hoskings? Tamaki? Serepisos?

so weird how the bush candidate is looking like the moderate!!! even looking back to bush jnr that shit seems moderate and rational next to trump.

not calling bush jnr moderate or rational, of course, just lamenting how bad it's gotten since.

greens suck tho, they refuse to work with other left parties, tits on a bull.
they soak up a lot of well meaning and intelligent voters who agree with their stated policy, but dont want to realise they are all just career politicians who give no more of a fuck about the country than key does.

Yes and no, I certainly don't think that all green MPs shit don't stink. But I think that at least some (maybe most) of them do have their heart in the right place, and although they might be career politicians they aren't doing it just for the pay cheque.

they're still the least worst option. if you don't vote for them, someone much worse gets in. refer to: the last three elections.

The Greens are largely one of the more relevantly educated groups of politicians in NZ. It's a good start. Though their glyphosate ban proposal is frustrating and annoying.

What has happened in Canada is quite spectacular. We can only dream.

With any luck Sanders and Corbyn will both get in, and in two election cycles NZ will vote in a not shit government trying to play catch up while pretending we were ahead of the curve with the last Labour government.

it's not exactly a ban, they're just asking for it to not be used in public places and that the EPA reassess it

here's the thread

You mention you're not a voter anyway though?

This is pretty much it, re: the Greens.

But to the OP:

Totally looks like Trump has the GOP primary wrapped up, Cruz has an outside chance. On the Dem side it's too close to call but Sanders would be preferred, he's just pushing shit up hill (guffaw) against establishment's candidate.

EDIT: Did I paste in the same video as up thread? facepalm thread indeed

this must be what youre referring to

Fiction & Falsehood wrote:if i bother to vote, which i probably wont, it will be for some obscure weirdo party, actually got real hacked off with what tariana turia said about potentially working with national in future, to be honest i dont think they have the gumption to effect anything in parliament, harawira might, but id never vote for that dick, so fuck... what does that even leave?

but later i said:
. wrote:also not sure if phil is posting here currently but wondering if he still really thinks socialist nationalism and national socialism is the same thing??

i am and i dont, never did, i was attempting to illustrate that just cos anarcho socialism exists, it doesnt mean all anarchists are now socialists.

im not as critical of socialists anymore, considering that any social/left movement is better than the alternative, and while i still hold anarchism as an ideal, i also still have disdain bordering on outright hostility for anarcho-narks and the banarchist community.

i also said fairly early on in this thread that i would never vote for Hone, but i was already turned around by Mana's (socialist) policy by the last election.

i still dont like greens, but am maybe gunna chuck my vote up the local guy, cos theres no mana/internet in my electorate, even tho he has no personality, nothing to say and a blank website :explainittomelikeimfive:
the only other alternative is the labour lady, but either way it doesnt really matter cos simon bridges is polling at 50% currently, so its pretty meaningless.

something you posted after, so probably should have read before you brought up a offhand comment from 5 years ago...

obviously theres always something a lot better to vote for than greens, ive since been talking to other people in the alternative building and solar industries, and i dont think i made it clear in that thread how the major companies deliberately made the subsidy only for panels of certain dimensions, which is what they were making(less efficient larger ones), the smaller companies could not simply change the size of their panels, and so could not receive the subsidy, this was done obviously with the collusion of the green party/fitzsimmons, who were aware of how this would effect the smaller outfits, but as solahart and sola60 etc openly made large donations to the green party, these valid concerns were ignored.

if that not corruption, what is it?
