Don Brash and Common Sense?

Postby Craig_Bastard » Sun Sep 25, 2011 1:16 pm

http://www.3news.co.nz/Don-Brash-cannab ... st+News%29

Act leader Don Brash is calling for the decriminalisation of cannabis.

He says prohibition of the drug hasn't worked, and policing it costs millions of tax payer dollars and clogs up the court system reports Newstalk ZB.

He's told TVNZ's Q&A programme there are other ways to restrict the use of marijuana.

"It's estimated thousands of New Zealanders use cannabis on a fairly regular basis, 6,000 are prosecuted every year, a $100million of tax payers money is spent to police this law," says My Brash.

EVERYONE VOTE DON BRASH

I wonder if this will actually discourage some of the more conservative twats from voting Brash/Act and help keep 'em out of parliament?
I think it's lint.

it's pretty consistent with the libertarian side of act, the whole party is meant to be based on the principles of personal responsibility and individual freedom. they've just had a fair few authoritarian weirdos and general all round crazy people in the mix too.

"Go and ask the police officers, go and ask the parents in New Zealand whether they want their 18-year-old child to be smoking a joint before they head off to school," he told TVNZ's Breakfast programme."

Fuck that kind of logic is annoying... Do parents and police officers want 18 year olds to down a bottle of whiskey before going to school? Completely pointless bullshit, what's worse is that this guy is meant to be leading the country...

676 vs 373

64.4% in favor of marijuana decriminalization, and the people who frequent stuff.co.nz is hardly gonna be biased towards hippy unemployed stoner trash. A lot of the comments say something to the effect of "I don't smoke the stuff, but I think it should be decriminalized"

This discussion really needs to be opened up across the nation. Seems really corrupt how it gets immediately shut down by the powers that be whenever someone brings it up.

Yeah I'm pretty glad it was someone like Don Brash nonetheless who opened this up for debate, seeing as he's quite well-known; I'm just hoping National and the rest of the scum don't shove this one under the carpet just like they did with Nandor..

Indeed.

And he's just been smacked down by Banks (ie ACT's only chance into parliament) who refuses to support it.

Herald poll has an opposite result, 47% vs 53%

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/artic ... d=10754231

They should just have another question on this years voting paper - 'decriminalise the weed, yeah nah?' and base the decision on that :) :) :)

I just spent half an hour with Don Brash talking about public broadcasting and marijuana law reform. Absolutely surreal.

I don't think Brash's views on marijuana law reform are a political stunt, I think it's hit a spot on his moral compass which he mistakenly voiced too publicly for the party he is associated with.

What a weird evening.

The Campbell Live poll was about 70% in favour of decriminalisation by the way.

complaining about how your taxes are spent is like pissing in the wind isn`t it
no matter how much you make a noise it`s still going to be spent on giving residency & state housing to people who illegally enter the country on false passports and stowing aboard ships

Weird.... If you asked police about marijuana decriminalization (anonymously, off the record, whatever) I have a feeling they might be in favour of decriminalising. It's obviously a massive waste of their time and resources.

Indeed. Libertarianism philosophy has been missing from Act's agenda for a long time. Now they just pander to the 'moral conservatives'.
This trend will further continue with departure of John Boscawen.

I think this is gonna at least get some decent face time, and maybe more opportunities to speak out freely with the chance of being heard. (Hopefully lol)
