ya
i have to agree with both of you on two points;
1. this topic has been debated to death.
2. mcdonalds does get singled out. and i think that is kinda dumb. i mean, i'm not mad that the truth is being spoken, but i do think that burger king and pepsi and coke and 3m and nike and alot of other companies that don't get much hassle, need hassle.
it's kind of the same thing when it comes to political prisoners. i mean, mumia abu-jamal has SO much attention in the media and with humanitarian kids, leorand pelteor has a bit. but what about all the rest?? i think its silly. and i've had discussions with people about it, and we sort of decided that maybe its good that so much energy is being put on what thing, and that an example can be made from it. i don't know... it certainly doesn't mean that we should stop buggin mcdonalds just because we don't bug other fast food outlets as much.
and i think i've said enough on the topic, the only reason i would keep going is if i thought the Mr Cancer might change his mind, but i don't see that happening anytime soon.
yep.

Substitute "anytime soon" for "ever" and you, my friend, have the truth.

tru dat scott-
really, change begins with the people around you. i'm not abt to go out and vandalize McD's to prove a point, but rather, i'll start by refusing to not eat there, and if i'm out and my mates want something to eat i'll try to coerce them into going elsewhere. and they usually do, they just need the drunken encouragement.

yeah
thats what i do, just dont eat there
people ask me why - i just start to say some things thatve been sed in this thread and then trail off becos theyre not listening...

cancer, despite all your bullshit, im not convinced. u & i hold different views, im educated, i know what u r saying, & im sure u know the other side's argument. BUT knowledge is not experience, if u were in any of these sweatshops, u would cry. life is not even worth living. your only argument to this would either be: no ones forcing you to be there. we both know thats not possible, so lets not go there. your other comeback is well i dont hve your compassion so leave me alone.
but unlike others, i dont dislike u at all, u stand for what u believe in, whereas others will jst continue eating it, not caring at all. so u r not that different really.
support local businesses indirectly helps yourself. this is the argument on the economic side. since the service is identical, i dont see why not.

This year we are very pleased to announce that the growing
international network of McDonald's employees - the McDonald's
Workers Resistance, established in 2000 - is calling for
McDonald's workers around the world to take joint action on the
same day, October 16th. Workers could phone in sick, hold partial
walk-outs and go slows etc, and send messages of support to
protestors outside stores.
If they dont like mcdonalds and are going to purposely not turn up to work....why have they got jobs there in the first place?
Stupid workers, no wonder they have to get jobs at mcdonalds.

the work or not too thingy-
an old class mate of mine recently got a job at an advertising firm and she's been landed the job of redesigning the McD's menu. now, she's actually vegan, so this is really chewing her up; whether to go with the flow, and fuck her morals, or shut up and get the job done, cos it's a shitload of money and it'll lead on to more work. i told her to be smart and chuck in subtle shit like little penis' hanging out the quarter pounders and stuff.
