Been listening to the coffinshakers album (S/T) yesterday, actually really enjoying it.

I like that they replicate that 50's rock n roll sound like the shadows or more 'surf' guitaring in a lot of their songs without tainting it with a 'modern' sound, even more so in the songs that sound like over produced 50's/60's rock n roll ballads like Del shannon or one of those bigger pop 'rock n roll/county' stars with studio musicians and lots of ridiculous instruments/back up vocals. Plust the guy almost sounds like J.C. in a few of the songs

yeah hillbilly moon explosion are good for sure.

i've just been charged with the task of putting together a bunch of country type music to be played in the chch Lush store for a "hoedown hairdown" hillbilly themed day. fun times. only has to have no swearing so that cuts out a few of my favourites but oh well.

I think all involved can agree its time we get some shit rolling - I say sometime this week as many of us as can make it get together after work one day for a beer and a jam on like 2 easy as fuck songs. (Like, a johnny cash one and house of the rising sun or some shit?)

PERT ! Even if I just walk round with a guitar and hear your Banjoing! :P

Sounds good, tragically though for the next couple of weeks I'm working till 7.30pm, so weekdays don't work for me at the moment.

Sunday's would be best as my other band is supposed to be jamming Saturday's.

Sweet will check em

As horrifically embarrassing as it is, have been listening to Nick 13's solo album....it's actually really good. Sort of like a cross between Marty Robins and Roy Orbison. Dude has a really good voice.

Heh, I have to disagree wholeheartedly.

Tiger Army token country song = fucking sweet.

Nick 13 doing the exact same song solo = for no apparent reason just gutless shite.

The thing is, I tend to like TA country songs more than their other material. I think it would be a shame to leave it to one song per album and the non TA songs on the solo album are as good as if not better than those already recorded by the band.

Did the last album even have a country song? From what I remember listening to it seemed they were going the same weird direction as AFI.

No idea. I didn't bother listening to it beyond the one single they released beforehand.

While I'm a kept man in Italy I've been playing heaps of banjo, written a bunch of songs. Hopefully make something of them when I get back to NZ at the end of next year.
