Made this post in songs you cant stop listening to, but thought I'd share it here..even if it's a bit off track.

Neil Diamond, pretty uncool but has written some pretty good songs. Long Gone being the best, but strangely pretty much never featuring on best of cd's

Delaney Davidson, The Eastern, The Unfaithful Ways and Lindon Puffin are playing a free gig at the Lyttelton Navel Point Club tomorrow night. Should be a goody, especially as starving for live music as Chch is right now.

I saw Delaney play a couple of months ago and he was great. The couple of albums of his I've heard are excellent.

haha I'd love to play something, but it's hard when dealing with useless bastards

But yeah, no dice on a jam this weekend - My grandad passed away on Wednesday so have been at his funeral today/wont be back in AK until Saturday evening and got shit to do Sunday.

Have a beer and listen to some Hank Williams (the first and best) for my Grandad (that's what I'm doing now).

I think he would have done himself a real favour by dropping the sequin jump suit, although maybe that's part of the charm?

That's a pretty rad venue!! Larry and his flask are a weird band, I downloaded their discography and half the shit is dirty punk rock (not very good imo) and half that string band style. So not really sure what they do now/at warped tour.

ps. this thing is still apparently happening, in that everyone has confirmed they are still keen...just that I've given up attempting to organise jams. There's only so many facebook messages/texts one can send with no response.

Thread has been good for discovering some bands.

If anyone has recommendations of bands/albums that sound like Old Crow Medicine Show - OCMS, that'd be grand. Particularly the slower stuff.

I enjoy quite a few track by the husband and wife two piece 'Truckstop honeymoon', they've come to NZ the past couple of years as what seems essentially as a working family holiday which is kinda cool. Their best songs imo would be on the album 'Delivery Boy' - they have better songs than this on the album, but it's an ok one:

Also, despite being associated with Hank III/haveing the tag 'goth country', .357 string band are actually really good and the lyrics although dark arn't particularly cheesy/dumb...or maybe it's because the guy can sing so they come across better :P . Anyway this a good song off 'Fire and Hail'

this blog is good http://ghostrider-mp.ucoz.ru/

loads of different stuff, there's a few .357 string band albums in the country section amongst a fuck load of other stuff. you might like the devil makes three too.

i've found these compilations are good way to find new bands along these lines: http://ghostrider-mp.ucoz.ru/load/count ... /8-1-0-398 a real good mix on them.
