X-Files

Was really enjoying the new season until ep3, the Rhys Darby slapstick was just too over the top for my liking.

it was always a fuckin retarded show, during the 90's in the xfiles heyday, directly after it was 'the outer limits' which was like the twilight zone or black mirror if you dont remember it.

was waaaaaay better.

I really dug a lot of it, but the casting was a poor decision.

This is being advertised (at least on one website I came across) as a reboot. Jump in with these new ones, or is it better to start from the beginning? I'm deep into Stargate SG1 at the moment so have little time for something as long running as X-Files as well, but it is on my radar.

I'll get to it eventually I guess. I do have Voyager and Babylon 5 and Red Dwarf all ready to go through first though. :)

Season 1, Ep 3 'Squeeze' is one of the best episodes ever! How did that not hook you?

You know, I reckon the casting in this episode worked quite well. Kept me guessing as to whether or not Darby's character was just a figment of the others' imaginations.

Hmmm yeah maybe it's just not the genre for me.

Pretty much everything that comes out of Mulders mouth sounds like a dihydrogen monoxide meme.

It was very different to the first two episodes, but X-files always had goofy episodes in amongst the serious hard sci-fi stuff. They were fun. It was an interesting concept.

Typecast tbh.

I do sincerely wish they at least hadn't given Rhys a job selling fucking cellphones. It was like having mulder and scully stumble into a fucking shitty 2 degrees ad every few minutes.

the first 5 original seasons were filmed in Canada and it reflected the cold gritty macabre atmosphere of the x-files
season 6 onwards executives demanded it be shot in Hollywood and the whole tone moved into more comedic lighter episodes....

the newer series seems to be continuing the silly Hollywood type BS

Hard. I enjoyed it.

Don't mind typecasting Darby because he doesn't seem to have much versatility anyway.

The mushies bit was the best thing in the whole of x files, the rest was some of the worst and more bigoted than homeland, a show adapted from literal Israeli propaganda.

The fuck is wrong with you.

My girlfriend couldn't even be bothered getting all the way through the old X-files. And she's WAY more into that show and tv in general than me.

do you guys like supernatural?

my girlfriends gormless boarder watches it over and over and over, he never watches anything else, and takes breaks only to play an interminable dragonball z fighting game at insane volumes.

anyway, its just like x-files but no scully for there to be clumsy sexual tension with.

while at moments it can lapse towards that sort of shit (especially in the new ones damnit) i think it has enough going for it to make it a step above them
