Are there any good shoes on at the moment or what??

Postby Window Licker » Mon Jun 29, 2015 7:37 pm

Seems like all the good shit (GoT, Veep, Louie etc etc) has finished and it's just a wasteland out there in TV world. The only thing i'm still following is Maron.
Anything good on NZTeeVee i should know about?
Any netflix series i should marathon? Have smashed OITNB and House of Cards already.
What are you guys watching?

Halt and Catch Fire s2 and Hannibal s3 seem to be the only really great shows that are on at the moment.

True Detective s2 just started last week.

Westside the prequel to Outrageous Fortune on TV3 is pretty good IMO.

Re: Netflix shows, I've seen people talk about Sense8 and Bloodlines like they're worth watching but I haven't seen either. Unbreakable Kimmy Schidt.

Check out Danger 5 if you like Incredibly Strange stuff. Is by the guys who did that Italian Spiderman YouTube viral.

New Bojack Horesman in a couple of weeks.

If you're keen to go back and watch old stuff that you might have missed you could check out The Honourable Woman, Peaky Blinders, The Kinck or Utopia.

As a free to air pleb I started watching Fargo since it's just popped up on Prime.

Also keen to watch more Hannibal, and Lilyhammer based on the first episode.

Falling Skies just started again, Penny Dreadful is probably near the end of S2.

Anybody else feel like maybe Cary Fukunaga was the brains behind True Detective? This season has been pretty cringey so far, though I'll admit to be intrigued enough to continue regardless.

If you haven't watched the Mindy Project its pretty funny up until near the end of Season 2. Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23 was actually sorta funny as well, or maybe Krysten Ritter is just infinitely watchable. Not sure.

The first episode of Mr Robot was very very good. I am also hanging out for S3 of Ray Donovan which starts in a week or so.

The best bit so far in the new True Detective is that moustache bloke threatening to fuck the bully's dad in the arse with his mother's corpse.

I've also been enjoying Westside.

There's some new sci-fi shows out. Killjoys I really like. Dutch is sexy as fuck. Dark Matter I find a bit dull though.

Another Period - sitcom that is somewhere between an early 20th century american period comedy, and a bad reality tv show. I liked it, and every character is awful.

Fargos really good. Lilyhammer was good for the first two seasons but got more cheesy as it progressed.

Started on the new outrageous fortune series, the acting was so poor I stopped.

Watching Legit (jim jeffries) at the moment which is pretty funny.

Find Me a Maori Bride has been a breath of fresh air in terms of NZ TV. Brilliant.

Suits just started back.

Also, Ballers is intriguing if you're into NFL and/or The Rock.

Hard out. Vince Vaughn is embarrassing to watch, and I'm pretty sympathetic to the man generally.

Finally watching Seven Periods with Mr Gormsby, it is so fucking golden.

Rick and Morty is back. First episode was great.

Just watched all of Strange and Norrell, haven't read the book, really enjoyed the show. You can feel that there is a lot that they didn't explore, but nothing felt under-explained or anything. Just felt quick for the size of the book.

Mr Robot is totally watchable, but also clearly aimed at basement dwelling 4chan retards who think they're revolutionaries, right? Like, it's just the internerd equivalent of Twilight desire fulfillment in fiction, yeah?

Much much enjoying S2 of Halt & Catch Fire, such fun.

Also really enjoying True Detective S2, thought will admit it's almost really terrible - like Southland Tales terrible. "Black Mountain" turning out to be Black Rock millitary contractors crossed with Academy Award winning film Brokeback Mountain hard me laughting so hard I had to pause and rewind the fucking scene. The stuff that is actually based on a true story is so bat shit it's hard to believe anyway though, and shit is clearly going to go full Chinatown (Polanski) at some point.

Yeah the Brink has been reliably funny so far.

7 Days In Hell was hilarious. Especially the first 20 mins and especially Michael Sheen.

the two eps of rick and morty are awesome of course, the first one not so much, like they admitted in all the interviews lately, they tried too hard on it, and it shows.
i tend toward suspecting a deliberate leak, the way those two eps are all they talk about with the new series, and the way they have released stuff in the past, almost seems like marketing to their audience.

whats some other good comedies? i didnt really like kimmy schmidt that much, tho i will persist with its next season i suppose, finally watched portlandia, didnt really dig it.
only recently got around to parks and rec, pretty much loved it, cept toward the end, particularly season 7, it was weird and stupid.

The Southland Tales comparison is a good one. Latest episode has been a major improvement, though.

Finding all the True Detective season 2 hate a bit of a laugh....I didn't think the characters or acting were that bad. Just watched episode 5 last night.

I'm currently into the 3rd season of Rectify which is pretty good....I highly recommend that one. One of the best series I've watched in a while.

It's a nice series eh. Not a lot of action, just quite pleasant to watch. Kinda like Treme.
