MAD MAX FURY ROAD

Postby bruce wayne » Sat May 16, 2015 1:28 pm

what's your opinion???

personally ...all action no story, tom hardy just doesn't deliver a 1/4 the performance mel did
I thought Hugh Keays-Byrne who played the toe cutter in the original film would retain some of the spirit of the other 3 films
but immortal joe doesn't even seem the slightest bit creepy like the toe cutter

on the positive side the crazy vehicles don't disappoint though

I didn't like it because of all the bloody feminism in it.

....

I'm almost convinced to go see it. Despite my dislike of modern action movies and necroed-up sequels.

. wrote:this movie had an amazing story. they say in movies the best stories are shown not told, and in mmfr miller did that masterfully. so if you need your stories spoon fed to you through clumsy exposition - this probably isn't the movie for you. the amount of story and world-building that exists in this movie without narration, voiceover or audience hand-holding is mind-blowing.

this movie is definitely a chase scene from beginning to end, but what's so fucking great about it is that miller is so artfully concise and economical with his storytelling that genuinely emotional character moments happen AMONGST the action. almost any other director would use the breathing spaces for quiet character moments - but in mad max the few quiet moments that exist are used for plot, while meaningful character moments are right in the middle of all the chaos.

just because hardy isn't doing an impersonation of mel gibson's max doesn't make his performance inferior. to say hardy didn't deliver 1/4 the performance mel did is ridiculous and makes me wonder how many movies you even watch if you think that's a bad performance.

and it's not really about him, anyway. this movie has so many amazing characters. furiosa and nux have the most obvious character arcs.

the whole movie is a masterclass in directing action. it's the most geographically coherent chaos i've ever seen. i've never seen anything of this scale captured so meticulously.

ideas, story, scope, direction, performances, design, photography, stunts - every aspect of this movies is five stars good.

seeing this movie was the most fun i've had in a cinema since i actually can't remember when. if you don't enjoy this movie you're really missing something great.

Great review.

This movie has been 30 years in the making and well worth it. Very impressive piece of media. Have seen it twice so far and will see it a bunch more times. It's amazing the things you miss the first time round. Saw it in 2d first then 3d. I prefer the 2d version to be honest. 3d is unnecessary.

Thats a brilliant review alright, well done. Its actually made me more enthusiastic to see it.
I'll always lean towards the first one as a personal favourite, it blew me away so much as a young fella.

ohh how silly of me going to see a movie with mad max in the title and expecting it to be about max

no mel Gibson no mad max, even though he didn't invent him mel owns the character
you can't recast him anymore than you can recast Indiana jones (which Disney was close to doing)

the movie does have good points to it, just personally without mel and a more interesting storyline you might as well have
called it something else even if George miller is directing
I couldn't watch the two newer star trek films with other people in those classic roles, I saw about 5 mins of the second one
on a plane flight and turned it off in disgust

I was going to go see Fury Road on Sunday but now that Christopher Lambert from the '80s has put a word in I shall be boycotting it and protesting outside the cinema. Hopefully Mel Gibson sucks my dick for showing such unwavering fundamentalism in the face of all reason.

every time people recast bruce wayne/the joker/whoever, everyone throws up a fuss... then they put in a good performance and people shut up.
Thought the movie was pretty decent. Aesthetically excellent. Weird feminist undertones.

They should cast Orlando Bloom as the Riddler. There would be violence on the streets. Be a real good way of riding the human race from some serious weak genetic stock. Then recast Johnny Deep in the role and do it all again.

This seems time for the obligatory TISM.

I love how nerd culture loves to look forward to things then revels in being bitterly disappointed by it like the pointlessly sad cunts they are.
