Unmissable TV of the last five years

if some tv addict friend of yours had been in a coma for the last 5 years and they asked you what were the shows that they absolutely had to catch up on, what would you reckon?

Fuck you, community rules.

These are the big series that I've paid attention to, some are better than others, a few started pre 5 years ago

Breaking bad
Boardwalk Empire
Dexter (ending was rubbish)
Game of Thrones (books are better)
House of Cards
Justified (kind of trashy)
Madmen (very pretty, but gets boring)
The Newsroom
Orange is the new black
Vikings
The Walkingdead (first few seasons suck)

I don't know how anyone could put community in a list and not parks and recreation. Only one of those shows turned shit for far too long.

Breaking Bad
Mad Men
Parks and Recreation
Game of Thrones
Louie
New Girl
Orange is the New Black
30 Rock (but yeah, its really great years were over by 2011/12 I guess)

Hannibal and Brooklyn Nine Nine too actually. The former because it took a brilliant movie, and turned it on its head for an amazing tv show, and the latter because it took a basic premise and for once actually did it incredibly well. How many similar sitcoms are just total shit, but nope, it's consistantly hilarious.

Had never heard of Brooklyn Nine Nine until I saw the pilot on the plane in the weekend. Pretty good. Just downloaded the first season of broad city on recommendation too.
Also two broke girls is so terrible, not even Kat Dennings rack can make it worth watching.

House is average, but Hugh Laurie is great. I watched all 8 seasons back to back, but I don't know if that makes House great, or if it's just worth watching for his character.
Similarly Castle isn't amazing, but worth watching just for Nathan Fillion being amusing and Stana Katic

Big Fillion fan, but I couldn't keep going on castle after about season 4. The bullshit CSI tech stuff got real fucking stupid.

It was good when I was catching a few eps here and there but then I tried to watch heaps back to back...

I'm not saying people are wrong for enjoying it, but it IS formulaic bullshit
Had the same sad experience with Mythbusters unfortunately - although a version where they cut the bullshit/ads/repetition would probably be 10x awesome

Brooklyn 99 seemed formulaic to me too. Samberg doesn't get along with the boss, goes about a crime scene in a non-conventional way, boss disagrees, Samberg is right.. everything comes around at the end and the day is saved. I do think the main brunette is pretty me gusta though

unpopular opinion i know but i reckon castle is really good quality shit. it's premise is absurd but deep down it's way better than the classic-hollywood pulp mask that it wears.

I know I dissed it hard, but season 4 of arrested development was actually real good when you get past the weirdness of it.
