Desperately tried to sample Lemmy's line but the music crosses over it at the end. Still, fucking great movie, surprised it took me this long to remember it :D

Haven't actually seen the film myself; but with recommendations here, Iggy and Lemmy, and a character that sounds like he was named after me, it's on my to-watch list.

Richard Stanley (director of Hardware) is a fascinating guy. After Hardware ran into some trouble (it was ripped off a 2000AD story by, I think, Alan Moore), Stanley was set loose to shoot his magnum opus, Dust Devil, but budgetary problems meant it got hamstrung and wasn't properly released (actually, it's a bit of a mess).

He went on to be hired to direct The Island of Doctor Moreau, but was sacked after three days' filming after clashing with Val Kilmer. He later snuck back on set and the make-up guys made him up as a freak and he's actually in the movie, without the new director's knowledge.

Stanley was disillusioned by filmmaking and went on to make docos instead, such as Voice of the Moon in Afghanistan, The Secret Glory about the (possibly successful) mission by a little-known Nazi officer to find the Holy Grail and The White Darkness about voodoo, a doco that ends with the US military kicking them out and one of the generals being sacked for his comments.

An interview with him is on YouTube in parts, about the Nazi Holy Grail stuff, it's pretty cool - I reckon General Mutante would love this shit...here's part 1:

i read those tripods books, liked them a lot, i think they were a kinda rebooted continuation of war of the worlds.

watched 'when the wind blows' which was indeed raymond briggs, very good, want to get some of his books now, especially the one about trolls sneaking into peoples houses at night to give them boils and shit.

Randomly NZ on Screen sent me an e-mail with a link to the first 10 minutes of Battletruck, better than the youtube crap, but still a film of its time:

Is that the one that's a comic book?
Because I read that a few times when I was small, and it was kind of fucked up. Note to librarians- Pictures does NOT automatically = childrens section : S

But I remember it being good for sure. Is the movie worth downloading?

This last one is a highly underrated film - a harrowing yet humanist insight into an alternate 'present-day-of-the-past', a strange world where death laughs with man, greed is anthropomorphised, and drugs are EVERYWHERE.

'I Like It When You Die' is the fourth album by American grindcore band Anal Cunt. The album was originally titled You're Gay, and the album cover was going to contain a mirror, but this idea was later changed

Watched this last night, pretty good music and the drawing style is cool, story can be a bit vague between major plot points and the ending was abrupt.

I was expecting this to be really cheesy, but it was actually quite downbeat and bleak. A bit of an obscure gem I reckon.

Plus it has this guy in it:
