Did you suss it? Couple of my Muay Thai training crew do MMA, but think somewhere else (maybe even in the hutt?). Will ask em where they train.
Theres the Octagon club in Petone who do Muay Thai/MMA/Ninjutsu and a new MMA club at the Wainui gym which I think is run by the Octagon Muay Thai coach (?).
Personally I think Lockdown MMA in Porirua (which fees are covered under joining the Alpha/Redden Fight Club) is the best for MMA as far as coaching experience, hands on sparring and learning acual MMA specific techniques goes. I think the only defeat the clubs had was when Leamy faught against Pride/UFC fighter Soa Palelei

Re: MMA THREAD (UFC/WEC/STRIKEFORCE/DREAM ETC ETC)
Dunno that I want to keen in MMA, Muay Thai is enough for now and I feel I wouldn't have the time..

Think you may mean the octagon club from alicetown? that closed down a year or two ago, and the coach has reopened the muay thai gym in wainui, didn't realise they did MMA too, but that makes total sense, since they had a cage in the alicetown gym.
I train in Muay Thai out of He Toa in petone who also do wrestling, which is pretty crazy to stay and watch after training.....
May catch ya at alpha over the summer, be training a bit with Dave Crawley, he's asked us to come over for a bit of a spar with your muay thai guys and gals.

Nah, too soon I reckon - if anything it'll be a novice (pussy, I know) fight in May. I've still got to cut a lot of weight so I can fulfill my dream of fighting retarded teenagers.

hahahahah mean! You will own all those teens.
You didn't look big when I saw you last? Arg I'm down to my last 2 or 3 kg of weight to cut. Got 3 months to lose it, but fuck its so hard when all I feel like is junk food after training.

Yeah, we'll see how it goes Bai... Just got to up my Cardio, lose a good chunk of weight, stop smoking and try not to drink myself half to death on most weekends. Sounds good on paper.

Re: MMA THREAD (UFC/WEC/STRIKEFORCE/DREAM ETC ETC)
Shouldnt be too hard. My first fight I weighed in at a mighty 52kg and had to fight up two weight grades, my plan to fight a 12 year old didnt pan out
Didnt really matter in the end, you see a lot of people concentrate far too much on weight loss and miss out on really important cardio work.

Got around to watching that recently too. Made me realise how much i dislike heavyweight K-1; Middleweights far better, technique and entertainment.

Yeah, but there's something particularly special about seeing two 7 foot tall dudes try and kick each other in the head.

I've told Mark I'm keen to work towards having my first Novice in May (in Porirua) - there's one in February too I think... that's way too soon for me. The February Deadly Debut might have been postponed as Mark is going to UFC110 in Sydney around then.

I think it's a cross brand / anything not owned by UFC game. looks interesting
(Wouldn't be Pride as UFC owns pride, jus sayin')

Stink huh. Im a big Cung Le fan, my favourite fighter from San Shou. I used a lot of his tactics for San Shou competition, focussing on throws and suplexs to finnish the fights quickly rather than letting the rounds go all the way.
Some of his wrestling tutorials are great.

Re: MMA THREAD (UFC/WEC/STRIKEFORCE/DREAM ETC ETC)
UFC 108 was good. Nothing really amazing to write about.
However just watched K1- Dynamite (kind of a mix of mma and kick boxing bouts) nothing really suprising results wise but Shinya Aoki is a crazy mofo. Breaks the dudes arm then while he lies there in pain gives him the fingers and then runs round the ring giving the crowd the fingers. So much for sportsmanship.
"When I had his arm behind his back, I could feel it popping, I thought, 'Well, this guy's pride just won't let him tap, will it?' So without hesitation, I broke it. I heard it break, and I thought, 'Ah, there, I just broke it.' I was stopped afterward, but even if I hadn't been, continuing to break it more would have been fine by me."
awesome
Back to training this week - should be pretty hard after 2 weeks of boozing and eating crap.
