This.

There's one episode where Maeve is getting shown her programming and I couldn't believe how well they'd nailed the NPC conversation logic, was awesome.

Supposedly a classic of the redneck/hicksploitation subgenre of 70s B Grade movies, but it isn't really very good. It's like Thelma and Louise without proper characters and with less humour, but you do get lots of boobs and explosions. Main reason it still has a cult following is the late Claudia Jennings, who was quite a screen presence if only an average actress.

Haven't watched this in yonks. Still holds up well, albeit with some clunky dialogue here and there. The third combat scene in this fucking rules.

Happy End (1967), funny as fuck. The events and script play out in reverse, so lines become answers to the wrong question to hilarious effect. I was inspired to fix up the dodgy English subtitles, so the next viewing ought to be painted fuckyeah.

It's a bit shit. But the sets, costume design, battle scenes and historical accuracy of the setting are pretty decent. I take that back, the sets are fucking amazing. Bob Hoskins and Ron Pearlman are the highlights of the cast. The plot is so far removed from the real story of Zaytsev that the film's comment on the portayal of war heroes in the Soviet propaganda machine becomes slightly ironic. The love triangle is annoying. The kid is annoying.

i liked this movie, saw it years ago, your crticism probably holds a lot of weight, but all i can remember is how realistic the sets were, so cool.

oh yeh and the scene where they get their equipment and every second soldier gets a clip but no gun and the officer is yelling 'WHEN the man in front of you is shot, pick up his gun and begin firing'

^ Great movie. It's been years... Keen to see it again now.

Went to the pictures for the first time in ages last night. Couldn't believe how fucking long the ads went for. I'm not joking when I say about 45 minutes. Then a fucking price list was chucked on the screen for another 10 minutes while some poor guy had to walk around asking if anyone wanted to buy ice cream. God it was horrible. Then a couple arrived late in front of us and had fucking nachos that smelled like vinegary feet. And some pretentious hipster next to me scoffed at nearly every trailer. The movies suck.

However, Arrival was great. Loved it. Beautifully shot, incredible score and Amy Adams was brilliant. Loved the story. Didn't realise it was based off a book, so might have to give it a read.

Just finished watching the new Gilmore Girls episodes.

The 1st and parts of the 2nd episodes were a bit too self referencing and too many token one off scenes with old characters. 3rd episode was definitely the strongest. Ending was ok, but should have been more Jess and less Logan. But despite the criticisms I enjoyed it heaps.

Just watched this. I enjoyed it, few loal moments. I thought the ending was a bit weak though, he just sorta gave in. He should have just gone full hardcore the other way and built a sea cave and lived under the ocean or some shit.

So after the shit storm surrounding the new Ghostbusters I thought it was going to be good, but man it sucks so bad. We stopped watching about 20 minutes in.

Since that we've had a run of really solid films, I'd recommend all of these:

Image
Western with great casting and dialogue.

Image
Post-apocalyptic focusing on human relationships.

Image
Hostage thriller/mystery/holy shit just wait till the end.

Image
Weird as fuck but also weirdly entertaining.

The worst thing about the new ghostbusters was the scene with the "metal" band, fucking embarrassing

Rougue One. Was pretty sick, will probably go see again. I need to decide if Felicity Jones is more of a fox than Daisy Ridley.

The O.A. Good but not great.

A girl turns up after 7 years missing, and it turns out she was abducted after running away from home. The season slowly unveils exactly what happened to her, what her current mission is, and how she plans to go about it. It reminded me of Lady in the Water or something in the sense that it was quite bizarre/spiritual. It has a really disappointing ending imo, but if some of the theories about it pan out then the second season should make up for it big time. Pretty good I guess, but it's no Stranger Things.

I enjoyed the OA, I like how it can be viewed as a fantasy or someone with a legit mental illness....
but being on the network it is/there being a second season I suppose it's clear that she really is an angel or what ever

I'm basically just annoyed our options are either 'angel' or mental illness at this point. I think the mental illness angle is a HUGE storyline cop out, and the 'angel' thing is weak. I'll be happy if she's just a celestial af superhuman that's capable of interdimensional travel. If they mention 'God' I'm definitely out. My hopes for season 2 are; everything turns out to be real, the FBI guy planted the books because the govt is in on it somehow, interdimensional travel becomes a thing, and the story just gets better.

Eh?

Thought it was anti-climactic and too predictable. Bit of a realistic drag... a week in the life of an FBI agent not enjoying their job. Like Julianne Moore in Hannibal but not nearly as badass. But I suppose that was the point.

I think you're on point, but I enjoyed it anyway. A bit different to the typical Hollywood FBI stuff.

A bit disappointing to be honest... the only family member who spoke on camera was his son who's a bit of a violent bastard himself. I think he's been overly romanticized.

NEDS

i dunno, i guess i liked it, not really sure, i couldnt understand fuckin half of what these cunts were saying, and the ending was just fucking ridiculous.

it was a movie with a lot of potential, and they put a lot of effort to making it look and feel right, but it still feels like a missed opportunity, i think it was the end that let it down the most, clumsy symbolism, and bad cgi lions(also bad cgi fireworks earlier in the movie) did not make for a satisfying conclusion.

it could have been, and certainly shaped up a lot like a scottish 'this is england' but despite some brilliant scenes throughout, i felt it lacked impact and emotion, mighta been better if i had watched trainspotting and other shit beforehand to get my ear in for the glaswegian lingo, cos i probably missed a lot wondering what the fuck was just said, i think that contributed to what seemed like poor character development in the supporting cast, watching the end with all the bit characters given names, i didnt even recognise half of them as having been in it.

Image

anyway, i still enjoyed it, might be worth a rewatch, it had a lot of moments of brilliance but sort of abruptly unraveled at the end.
