Pretentious eurobollocks, of mainly historical interest. One of the girls in it was only 17 (guess it wasn't such a big deal back then). Emmanuelle's husband thinks it's a jolly good idea to set her up on a date with a creepy old perv who talks Satresque bollocks so that he can get her gang-raped in a Thai opium den and whored out to the winner of an underground Thai Boxing match. This apparently "liberates" her sexually.

Positives: Very nice cinematography, Thai location shots are very well done. Acting is passable and Sylvia Kristel sure is nice to look at. Girl-girl scenes are well done.

All in all, just a historical curiosity really. It was a huge hit in France and did a fair bit of business in the US during the porn chic era. Sylvia Kristel's auto-biography might be worth a read, in real life she was a grumpy Dutchwoman who chain smoked, drank two bottles of whiskey a day and freebased.

After watching Deadpool was recommended this weirdo film - directed by Marjane Satrapi whose work you may know from the animated adaptation of the graphic novel Persepolis. To be fair this trailer is a maybe a little spoilery, excellent example of Ryan Reynolds managing to find pathos in some uncomfortable places. Looking forward to Marjane Satrapi's next project, plot = "a Fakir tricks a village into paying him to fly to Paris to buy a bed of nails from an Ikea store".

Loads of shit ripped from Se7en for laughs (?) here whereas Deadpool ripped Fight Club for laughs - good to see Finchers aesthetic getting a good going over whilst his philosophy gets a bit of a kicking in both (lovingly, mostly, ish).

I wish he'd give Steven Wright more lines, that guy's a genius.

Kurt: Fuck this country!
Leon: Hey, watch it!
Kurt:Why?
Leon: I dunno, but you're supposed to say that when someone says the thing you said.

I didn't even realise that Birdman was a one-shot movie. how/what? (it is a good movie though)

I've been watching The Magicians, which is pretty childish but alright. Same with Lucifer, feels like it's almost exactly the same premise as Castle (tough female cop saddled with absurd civilian male sidekick) but also like castle it's almost worth watching just for the main protagonist. I've never seen someone turn arrogant/smarmy up to 11 so much.

he had the best line of the whole season in that last ep when that guy was like "I can have a 10 year old friend?" and then Leon says "you can have one."

All over now and it was an interesting experiment. Seems the business model was a failure and he's now millions in debt, has to try to flog the series off to netflix etc. It was interesting anyway, and great acting throughout especially by Alan Alda and Steve Buscemi.

Things that pissed me of:

(1) No matter how attractive she was when she was younger, no woman could drink as much alcohol as Jessica Lange's character did for 50 years and still look like Jessica Lange.

(2) Hollywood tourette's. Yes I know it's very amusing to have a woman randomly shouting "cunt" but real tourette's sufferers don't do that. They have a tic or mannerism which they display when they're nervous, as do many people. Tourette's isn't all that rare and is often undiagnosed. Usually the tic is just some unusual body language and occasionally it involves vocalization but compulsive swearing is very rare, and when it happens it's usually male adolescents. Movies/TV exploiting tourette's for entertainment purposes has got everyone associating it with compulsive swearing which is completely wrong.

(3) Middle-aged wish fulfillment. Yes a few cute younger women do go after 50 year old men - they're called gold diggers. They don't go after glum emotionally damaged middle aged bar owners. Sad old Horace somehow manages to pick up three attractive younger women during the course of the series, Pete two.

(4) The trans stuff. So he has this chick over for the night, has a good time, then in the morning she starts fucking with his head over maybe or maybe not being a trans woman? What the fuck? Who does that? Would a genetic woman do that to a guy she barely knew? Would a trans woman do that? (The meme of trans women ("traps") tricking straight guys into fucking them does not reflect reality.) And instead of just telling her to get the fuck out and stop fucking with his head he wants to see her again? And she appears again for no particular reason in the next episode? Clumsy stuff.

(5) Mentally ill people are murderers. Pete's the nice guy of the series but when he goes off his meds he becomes a killer? At 52 with no previous history of violence? Way to promote tolerance and understanding for people with mental health issues, Louis.

Anyone else follow this Primitive Technology youtube channel? It's excellent. Dude goes into the bush with no tools and gets shit done. (Start with first upload seeing as he's slowly advancing.) It's fascinating and really calming to watch. No shitty music or talking. Recommended 420 viewing.

Meanwhile:

been enjoying this channel, which, despite it's risque name is mostly end-grain woodworking. Meditative but may need muting on some videos due to free-license music that repeats for 10minutes.

Watching this series for the third time now. Fucking brilliant, hats off to our James. So much incredible detail within these episodes including this anecdote about Kawiti's men cumming on a volunteer and putting no less than five balls in him.
