The Dickies (USA) New Zealand Tour April 2015

Postby NOIDEAWOTEVER » Mon Oct 20, 2014 10:17 am

Metropolis Touring are proud to announce LA’s legendary original bubble gum pop-punk veterans THE DICKIES, live in Australia and New Zealand for the very first time!

Formed in San Fernando in 1977, THE DICKIES were the first West Coast punk band to be signed to a major label. Often touted as LA’s answer to THE RAMONES, the band quickly gained their own fans and following, with their own take on trashy movies and pop culture, releasing classic albums The Incredible Shrinking Dickies and Dawn of the Dickies (1979).

But it was their punk re-interpretation on the children’s theme tune to ‘The Banana Splits Adventure Hour’ that really put THE DICKIES on the musical map. Released as ‘Banana Splits (Tra la la song)’ and given a unique pop-punk twist, the song reached #7 in the UK in 1979. This version was later used on the KICK-ASS soundtrack.

A DICKIES live show can incorporate everything from zany clown costumes and puppets to midget roadies and ferocious mosh-pits. Over the years the band have toured with THE DAMNED, THE RAMONES & THE QUEERS and inspired a range of bands including NO-FX & BLINK-182.

THE DICKIES have survived line-up changes and untimely deaths and continue to play and record today with founding members Stan Lee and Leonard Graves Phillips. The energy and ferocity of the band who are celebrating their 38th anniversary in 2015 still excites fans and critics alike. Live faves such as ‘Gigantor’, ‘I’m OK, You’re OK’, ‘’Paranoid’, ‘You Drive Me Ape’, ‘Killer Klowns’, ‘Doggy Do’, ‘Nights in White Satin’ and of course ‘Banana Splits’ never stray from the set list.

Don’t miss THE DICKIES live in Australia & New Zealand for the very first time! Tickets on sale Friday 24 October.

I've been keeping a list of bands who want the supports but probably I'm not gonna look at it until next year.

Has anyone heard about the singer attacking a female fan at the Brisbane show the other night?

Some people on social media are commenting on a show they weren't at.

People have selective memory if they want to run amok on the stage and interfere with the bands like the 'good old days', yet don't want the good old bruises and smashed teeth that go with it. But I'd rather see the audience take it upon themselves to stop people from interfering with the band in the first place. No amount of online arguing is gonna change what happened after the fact.

As some of you already know there was an unfortunate incident with a female fan at the Brisbane show. Leonard originally foolishly attempted to light heartedly brush the incident off and it backfired on him badly (and rightly so). Since then he has contacted the fan in person and 'fessed up his actions on Facebook. The Female fan is fine with this now and she has said this publically, so personally I feel that's where it should end.

If I thought there was an on going problem with him I wouldn't hesitate to take action as I do not support violence at all. He made a big mistake and he knows it. Time to move on as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah I saw that apology. Sorry but it didn't seem very sincere. Especially as the day after the incident happened the singer was on facebook making fun of the incident, making fun of the womans size and weight and also insulting many fans on facebook that were calling his actions into question. Then a after all this thing exploded online and was getting more attention he then suddenly learns the error of his ways and finds it within himself that hitting a woman probably isn't something you should make jokes about? Or was it because they realized it wasn't the best thing for the bands image and upcoming shows.

I'm not saying this guy is some serial woman basher but these people who find their conscience when the shit hits the fan and they've been totally caught out is lame.

J! Did you just say I blame the victim? If so that is utterly wrong and uncalled for J and please apologise immediately.

Yes it was unfortunate. I have spoken to some people who saw the whole thing and that's the general consensus, 'an unfortunate incident that got out of hand'. It certainly wasn't calculated or pre meditated.

Leonard made some mistakes for sure. But he has fronted up and talked to the person in question and she is fine with him and the situation now. Her and her Husband (assume it is Husband as they have the same last name) even thanked him on FB for the phone call. If she's ok with it then I trust her judgement.

I've also spoken to the band a couple of times about this and I firmly believe they are all wonderful and decent Human Beings who are absolutely gutted and upset about this whole situation. If I didn't believe that then they wouldn't be getting on a plane to New Zealand, end of story.

I feel like some people are gonna jump all over this no matter what is said so I'm gonna leave it at that and get back to putting on a great tour.

Losing your keys is unfortunate. Knocking over your beer is unfortunate. Grabbing someone by the hair and punching her in the head is not unfortunate, it's fucked up. While the Dickies and their fans keep saying It's punk rock, this is the real deal, stop being soft about this situation they're actually being a a bunch of PC soft cocks by trying to use language like "unfortunate" and "incident" to water down what actually happened.

Also as for the whole Everyone is jumping on the bandwagon call, maybe people aren't jumping on the band wagon as much as they don't like the idea of men at punk shows beating on women. A while there maybe bandwagon jumping happening against them there's also bandwagon jumping by their fans who don't want to face up to the seriousness of the situation telling people it doesn't matter or it's not a big deal. Why? because the don't want to think that their icon could be a shit person or how this would effect their good time at the show. Much easier to ignore it.

However I guess since it wasn't calculated or pre meditated doesn't mean it's a big deal right?

Ignoring the shitcuntery of certain bands/people is pretty common (Bad Brains anyone?), gee i can even think of a NZ band everyone loves to wank over fronted by someone who prefers to beat his women in private....
