Haere Mai Metal Fiends!
Thanks to all the people that attended the first annual Beyond The Black NYE Festival last Dec 2011.
It was hailed as a great success by all involved, from patrons, bands to sponsors.

Annually on December 31st, bring in the New Year by joining your fellow metal-loving brethren and checking out some of the best talent that NZ has to offer.
Beyond the Black Heavy Metal Festival is, again, fully licensed and ready to mosh in the New Year with blessings from the Upper Hutt Community.

Hosted at Trentham Racecourse in Wellington, a truly picturesque & ideal setting for a festival.
This year, the line up is just as awesomeness! With 20 bands and 2 stages running this year, LIVE Flesh Hook Suspension from the Skin Puppets, more stalls, give aways and activities, Zombie go-go girls and a wider food and beverage range the 31st of December 2012 fest will be EPIC - do not miss out. You can even buy your Beyond the Black tee prior to the fest this year from Brutalitees. Look better for longer I say!

BANDS: So you wanna know about the bands!! Here is over half the line up – I will post the rest in December:

Haere Mai Metal Fiends!

Here is a bit more info regarding Beyond the Black Festival 2012.
Most importantly I am running a sale on BTB ’12 tickets. 2 tickets for $40 – that means you save $20 off the pre-sale price. Basically for $10 more you get another ticket. This sale will start on the 1st of November 2012 at noon and it will last for 100 tickets – that’s 50 purchases (just to be clear). I will put the code on the BTB website and BTB facebook event page so you can access this sale price – just have to enter the code into the box on the DASH ticketing website when you purchase your tickets to redeem this sale price.
Other exciting news: Blink, my very talented buddy, has made a highlites vid from footage that he collected at last year’s festival. It is totally worth the time to check it out. The video is embedded on the BTB website – home page. Or you can see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdKSqse ... ature=plcp
BTB promo stunt “Bikes and Bods” is planned for the 1st of Dec ’12. We will be cruising the streets of Trentham in our cool V8s and Harleys looking sexy as. Finishing with a car and bike display at the side car park of The Mall at 1pm. Have a look at the poster for the itinerary. Or give me a call/text/email if you would like to take part info@beyondtheblack.co.nz 0273302229. I will do a few BTB ticket give aways’ during the display at The Mall – you must wear your BTB tee (last year’s or this year’s) to be in to win. Bikes and Bods FB event page:
Upper Hutt physical ticket sales will be in place in a week or so – but definitely by Dec 1st 2012. This means you can go into The Revolution shop on Main Street and purchase a ticket with cash or eftpos. Dash also has physical ticket outlets – just check their website for details of locations.
Lastley I am planning lots of activities to make BTB even more fun. Wet tee and wet Y-front competitions were so popular at my last Jenimal at Large show that I thought we should do it again for the festival. So let me know if you would like to enter either of the wet comps – prizes will be awesome (band CDs/merch etc). I will release all info on all the fun activities in the next press release in Dec.

Aside from Flesh D-Vice who I've seen a few times recently anyway, this line-up is very strange. I thought festivals were supposed to get better each year not ridiculously worse? I haven't even heard of most of these bands...

maybe you should have stuck to the original team who clearly knew what the hell they were doing and had some dece contacts.

very much looking forward to the reviews on this one though. Is anyone here actually going?

There's a few decent bands on there. You can hardly say last year looked highly appealing. I'll be in Wgtn for NYE so might go and "take one for the team". :tohlc: Depends what the rest of my family is doing.

As it turns out, according to the companies website Jenimal organised last year too. This year is run without the owner of Bar Medusa, who had more than a few defensive rants on here and eventually left in a huff with Logan telling her she'd be back. Which was very, very amusing.

Last year's headliners were Shotgun Alley, Devilskin, HLAH, Decortica and Whole Lotta Led? What the hell kind of Metal event is that?!?!?!

Albeit with the absence of any real 'headliners', out of this year's line up I'd still be keen to see Flesh D-Vice, Cephalopod (seen the chick vocalist? phwoar..), Vixen Execution, El Schlong, Horrendous Disfigurement & Amachine. I can't say there have been many metal events this year that have had 6 bands I'd at least check out. Plus it's NYE. What the hell else is there to do? Be a trendy cunt and head to town?

Uh, what does that have to do with anything at all? Its obvious that she had a huge part of last year which was awesome and don't see how this is related. It kinda seems like your obsessed dude...

Last year's headliners were Shotgun Alley, Devilskin, HLAH, Decortica and Whole Lotta Led? What the hell kind of Metal event is that?!?!?!

Last year was advertised as a rock and metal event. I don't recall it saying anywhere that it was a metal event?? And actually, those bands are all pretty dece I reckon. Beats whats on offer this year and it seems that that is the general feeling at the moment from a lot of people.

You mentioned the "original team", just filling in the blanks.

I have to agree all the bands I mentioned are pretty decent with the exceptions of Shotgun Alley and Decortica in my personal opinion. I'm more fond of this year's line up, that's all.

You're also correct that last year was Rock as well as Metal, my bad. As you were.

We can only hope that they are taking the piss out of themselves but somehow I dont think so.

Everytime they do something embarrasing you can see them try to backtrack and say that its a joke. I dont think i've seen anything this awful for a long time. Is the sight of a slutty hutt chick supposed to make us wanna go?

Pretty much. I definitely don't see any better gigs happening in Wellington on NYE. Except maybe Die! Die! Die! and Hollywoodfun Downstairs at Bodega. But then there wouldn't be cheap booze and...

Went to last years event which has pretty much solidified the fact I won't go again. Horrible sound, blinding lighting in the crowd, venue 10 times the size for the amount of people, expensive drinks, intense alcohol check at the front gate who confiscated my craftly concealed Jim Beam (was told there wouldn't be a pat down by a promoter) and the only areas to sit aside from the deafening concert hall was outside in the drizzle/bird shit gully and in the bar area where they played various pop music. Good on them for giving it another go, a couple of bands I'd be keen to see but not enough to override last years experience.

Pretty much. I definitely don't see any better gigs happening in Wellington on NYE. Except maybe Die! Die! Die! and Hollywoodfun Downstairs at Bodega. But then there wouldn't be cheap booze and...

I gotta say it; this was pretty mean for a NYE gig. Beers were only $5.50 and there were quite a few GCs there from all over NZ. Very minimal stereotypical Upper Hutt bogan contingent I thought. Didn't see any dramas unfold - the couple of coppers I saw looked absolutely bored shitless.

I'd say they worked out the kinks. No birdshit, smaller more realistic venue for the mainstage, no crowd-facing blinders in the lighting rig this year (thank fuck, last year was shit I agree), plenty of tables and chairs to go round, no drizzle only sunshine, no pop music aaand the sound was pretty good even at the outdoor stage.

Cephalopod's last set with Andy on drums was great. Also of notable mention were Flesh D-Vice, Vixen Execution, Horrendous Disfigurement and El Schlong. By the end of the night the venue was semi-packed and I was tanked as. Vixen's moshpit was brutal, even old brutal koro Claude from Corpsefeast got deep in the pit and sent Caspian flying. I pretty much spent the entire event getting on the piss with the DM bros from Horrendous, Vixen, Brutal Supremacy and Carnal (Fyfe & Jesse were there too) so good times were had indeed.

Hope the line up is better next year but in between the 5 or 6 bands that I actually wanted to see I had ample time to relax, catch up with mates from out of town, drink plenty of piss and take in the scenery out there which is basically the expanse of the racecourse surrounded by beautiful forest covered hills as far as the eye can see. Sitting at the top of the grandstand having a smoke while watching the sunset was choice.

Would attend again.

Would be good to hear from someone who wasn't a part of organising it as well. Anyone?

ok so i've heard that there was hardly anyone there at all and after a quick look at the photos that sort of confirmed that for me. so was it more successful than last year? last year was about 500-600 right?
The other main thing i heard about this was that it was just a slightly bigger version of the tacky hutt shows with the wet t-shirt comps etc. i think that despite what everyone thought about last year's one, at least it was taken seriously and organised professionally. this just looks like someone has mistakingly thought that tacky strippers are what all metalheads want. I guess thats why most metalheads i know didn't even consider going this year even though the line-up has more metal.

sorry, but if you took the two fests and compared them in terms of success, i think you'll find that this one was just a huge failure. maybe its time to lay it to rest.

I'd be interested to know how many people went too.

It definitely seemed more around gimmicks and stereotypes than good music, though plenty of people seem to buy into that shit.
