the first chch one was 2002 but yeah half a minute on google found events called punkfest that have happened in new orleans, brisbane, grand rapids in michigan, bloomington in illinois, denver, one in cincinnati called "cincypunkfest" that has been going ten years at least and more :P

Oh and they used to have the Neil Roberts Memorial Punkfest down there too, might even predate the north island one? Pretty irregular though I think, and hasn't happened for a few years now.

The Neil Roberts Punkfest started sometime around the early or mid 2000s. Punkfest in Wgtn started in 1996. There was a fest in Canada that was called "Punkfest" that started sometime around 1994 or 1995, but we never heard of it til 2008 so it's just a coincidence that we had the same name. I think it's stopped happening now as it was held on some land a guy owned out in the country and the guy apparently died sometime in the last year or so.
I've not heard of any other punk event in the world called Punkfest, any other punk festival I've been to or heard of have their own names.
I'm wanting to go to Chch in Oct but not sure if I can afford it. Here's hoping!

There's Brisbane Punkfest, although that's what Cathy, Chris and their associates who regularly put on punk shows call themselves. As far as I'm aware they don't have an annual "Punkfest" as such, but they do gigs under the punkfest banner all the time. https://www.facebook.com/punkfest.brisbane

The 100 Club gig in London in the 70s that everyone in history was at in the 70s became known as Punk Festival and I assume that there's been 1000 "Punkfest"s since.

My vote's for the Chch gig is a "Nevermind-the-Punkfest" or similar, so "Punkfest" remains the country's prime punk gig status.

so, Yellow Romans, you are, for the court today, saying, that you had absoluety no idea there was another punkfest and to the best of your knowledge you made punkfest up?

because if so, we should get you down to the place where you trademark stuff... you could be on to something

we can take those south island bastards down and issue them with a subeaona and you (we) can be rich and buy venue in wellington and maybe afford to bring king cannons to come and play ?

I quite like the Nevermind's too, its an homage to the good work Ross, Lynn and the rest of the Punkfest committee did for so long. At least that's how I thought of it.

Oh nice thanks

I am saying for the court today, that being a bunch of useless punx we used the logic of "we are having a festival of punk bands, so let's call it Punkfest". It kinda fits in with the logic in NZ for naming things with really obvious names. It doesn't always work though, a friend was holidaying in the far north and saw a place called "Tino pai" on her map. She decided that with a name like that she should check it out, but decided that it was rather like a case of false advertising. I've passed through the town and feel it should be called "Tino Stink" cos it looks like a stink place.

Just 1, barely. But I did take Maori at high school for a year, but to be honest most the time the teacher wasn't there (better things to do?) and the relievers got a tough time and it just ended up with cunts 'breakdancing' at the back of the class.
