THE SISTERS OF MERCY - Auckland - Powerstation 22 Sept 2011

THE SISTERS OF MERCY COME TO THE POWERSTATION

“Be advised that the Sisters are going on tour again. We will behave very badly. We will wear some very loud shirts. We will wear some very wrong trousers. We will perform some very legendary rock music. It’s what we do.”

Take these words as a warning – 30 years after The Sisters Of Mercy premiered their dense soundscapes in their spiritual home of Leeds, the band is finally coming to New Zealand, playing one show only at The Powerstation on Thursday 22nd September.

The Sisters Of Mercy’s first show at the Riley Smith Hall of the Leeds University Union building introduced their haunted industrial grooves alongside an audacious selection of rewired classics from the likes of The Velvet Underground and Leonard Cohen.

The Sisters Of Mercy have undergone line-up changes since their inception, but at the core of a synthetic sound powered by their resident drum machine, Doktor Avalanche, is the brooding baritone of front man Andrew Eldritch. Both Eldritch and the good Doktor will play The Powerstation, with Chris Catalyst and Ben Christo grafting hypnotic riffs onto the Sisters’ mechanoid foundations.

For three decades The Sisters Of Mercy have operated according to a self-written manual, unbeholden to record company demands or narrow genre descriptions

The Sisters Of Mercy’s 30th Anniversary Tour.

I got a call recently saying they are resending out the tickets, so to get rid of the other ones, when the new ones arrive.. even though I'm purty sure we organised just to pick up on the night anyway... weird

Hoping to get to this, but may be doing rare birdy stuff on the Chatham Islands. They are both once in a lifetime opportunities, but the Black Robin trip was booked before this news came out. Technically I have been into Black robins longer....

Really hoping I can do both though.

NO-ONE is half of my buddy Wayne - unless we're talking Simon Hinkler here. That solo on Tower of Strength from No Snow is fucking brilliant :)

those are just pills!

Eldritch hasn't done anything decent since First Last Always, Floodland was nothing but an attempt at Meat Loaf.
You know it.

I think Hot Chocolate covers done them would have to be the meanest shit ever.

Floodland sounds more like a Bowie attempt at goth rock.

....

The NME used to describe Eldritch as the Thin White Puke...

it will be interesting to see how much cool Pukey exudes on stage compared to Bowie ;)
