STEVE IGNORANT - CRASS SONGS (AK/WELL, JUNE)

Postby NOIDEAWOTEVER » Thu Apr 07, 2011 9:02 am

Minovation and Punk Rock Road Trips present:

STEVE IGNORANT - THE LAST SUPPER
(CRASS SONGS 1977-1984)

In 2007, Steve Ignorant gathered some friends together and put on two shows at Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London, England. Called The Feeding Of 5000, the show was a celebration of the Crass album of the same name, which was performed in its entirety.

It most certainly was not a CRASS reunion, and never sought to be.

The Last Supper tour, which began in the UK in September 2010, answered the calls that came from around the globe in response to the Shepherd’s Bush gigs. This June, Steve and his band will be coming to New Zealand, celebrating the period of Crass’ work with which he feels most closely aligned – the period when he feels the band were at their strongest, most productive and most hopeful.

Steve will be performing with a full band (not the other members of Crass) and as well as featuring Crass songs there will be some rather special visuals. The touring line up includes Gizz Butt (guitar – Destructors, English Dogs, Janus Stark, The Prodigy, The More I See), Bob Butler (bass – The Tone, Schwartzneggar), Spike T Smith (drums – The Damned, Conflict, Killing Joke, Morrissey), Carol Hodge (vocals - Bad Taste Barbies, Synco, Electraglide) and of course Steve Ignorant (vocals).

Steve has also just published his autobiography, The Rest Is Propaganda, which tells the story of his upbringing in the wilds of East London, and how he escaped a life on the factory floor, formed Crass with Penny Rimbaud, and how Stephen Williams became Steve Ignorant.

Having started in London in 2007, this new expanded show will soon visit the USA, Canada, Australia & New Zealand before a FINALE in London on 19 November 2011. At which point the door will be firmly closed.

"Me and the band are really looking forward to this. Being able to the play the Crass songs in places where Crass was never able to go will be an honour, and a huge amount of fun as well. Hope to see some of you there." - STEVE IGNORANT

Have never been a huge crass fan but appreciate their significance. I will be going to this, it really is punk rock history and something I thought I would never see!!

Just dunno how i'm gonna be able to make this show, fkn gutted if i can't. Never been much of a Crass fan at all, apart from "feeding of the 5000" and Steve Ignorant, both of which i fkn love!!!

of course we fucking do!

and on that note, when did the bloody ferry get so expensive?? looked at booking it for a few people to come over for the gig as a road trip would be more fun than flying (for old times sake and all that ha) but $110 one way? like hell.

yeah was plotting it with dave last night. were hoping to go across on the day of the gig leaving the car in picton and get an early morning ferry back so as to avoid having to stay the night but think we were assuming ferry times and prices were still like the nineties haha. flying is half the price.

I recon you've got that wrong,i've been looking at booking the ferry for a crowd of us from nelson and it's $100 or $110 RETURN depending which company you use.We payed the same when we went to DOA the other week.

perhaps they've started charging chch cunts more because they're loaded after bludging millions from the rest of the country in recent months.

Bluebridge used to be cheaper but last time I used them (Vibrators tour) it wasn't. But they are a smaller company and easier to deal with so I usually prefer them over the Inter-islander. The boats aren't as flash as the inter-islander but if you're quick you can grab a free cabin and sleep etc.

Support bands updated on first post.

Hard tix available from Real Groovy Records (Auckland) and Cosmic Corner (Wellington) http://www.cosmicticketing.co.nz/event/show/1055

And for those few people who turn up saying they havn't got any money etc, I suggest start saving up for it you now if you have to because I'm going to be strict as on this. No ticket - no entry and no haggling for discounts etc. Any names on the guestlist will be personally approved by me so don't expect your mate who works at the venue to get your name on the door, it ain't gonna happen. My ticket prices are always as cheap as I can possibly do them, so please do the right thing or don't go.
