70s hard rock/blues rock/prog rock/stoner rock
Yet another thread for non-punk genres.

I know Pentagram and Budgie but Night Sun was new to me, cheers. (Damn Night Sun is heavy as fuck, in the 70's sense rather than the extreme metal sense). Budgie's singer is a little weird, he's tiny and geeky and a born again christian...
Re: 70s hard rock/blues rock/prog rock/stoner rock
Ye, just had to link my favourite Pentagram face melter as it's one of their demos from the 70s. Burke's voice took me to another world when I first heard Breadfan and started listening to Budgie, almost a shame to get used to it. I've seen both bands live.
Another favourite of mine is Judas Priest's debut album. Way more bluesy and in line with Black Sabbath than any of their later stuff:
Bloodrock is decent too:

We must secure the extinction of all people and no future for any children
Re: 70s hard rock/blues rock/prog rock/stoner rock
Probably the scariest acoustic album ever.
Edit: Re Judas Priest, I never liked their first album, they were still finding their sound back then. They kind of ditched all the blues influence after that, creating the modern heavy metal sound in the process with the twin guitars etc. Wouldn't be any Maiden or Slayer without Priest. Sad Wings of Destiny was a landmark album, Sin After Sin contained the devastating "Dissident Aggressor", then there was the power ballad "Beyond the Realms of Death" on Stained Class... their 80s stuff was mostly crap then when they were looking like dinosaurs they came up with their last good album "Painkiller" as a kind of response to Metallica and Slayer. Their "Some Girls" if you like.

Some uploads say 1969 for Crank but either way this is a great one that didn't surface until the 90s, as was the case with many a recording:

Not really the topic of the thread but just when Judas Priest were being written off as irrelevant old fuddy duddies this happened.
Re: 70s hard rock/blues rock/prog rock/stoner rock
Pretty much blown away by Scorpions' prog rock debut album with Michael on lead guitar. Never got hooked on their later stuff.

Re: 70s hard rock/blues rock/prog rock/stoner rock
M. Schenker is a favourite among rock guitarists, easy to see why. Maiden used to play this in their warmup music before their shows.
Re: 70s hard rock/blues rock/prog rock/stoner rock
Would never have picked this for the Beach Boys. It's a corker.
Re: 70s hard rock/blues rock/prog rock/stoner rock
I always liked how fucking weird this music was, and the weird as fuck artwork for Tarkus
There's more to life than thrash

Re: 70s hard rock/blues rock/prog rock/stoner rock
Prog rock at its most magnificently pretentious.
Re: 70s hard rock/blues rock/prog rock/stoner rock
Was recently compiling a list of my top 25 or so metal (& heavy psych) albums from the 70s. There were some glaring omissions in this thread! Motörhead - Overkill is up there too of course.

Track #6, High Beech. Fuck. I feel stoned just from listening to it.
