Whitey wrote:Oi!'s a tricky one, because any band from England that uses anything remotely patriotic is probably a racist band. There's also the classic fence sitting which usually means they're a racist band as well. I remember watching an Oi! band when I lived in Bristol who were banging on about being A-Political, then going into a song about St. George

Yeah I know what ya mean, to be honest I guess I have a double standard to a degree, just yesterday I was listening to The OFFICIAL, a skinhead band from Johor Bahru, Malaysia, and its packed full of references to how proud they are to from J.B and also to be Malaysian. If this was an American or an English band spurting the same patriotic speech I would be much quicker to dismiss it.
But the malay scene is kind of funny like that, even the anti fa skins Ive met there would rep this band, but still hate the nationalist skins (which there is allot of). The Malay Power movement exists and if you want a laugh you can youtube a band called Brown Attack, the main fascist Oi! band from there, but I'm digressing into a world of bigoted Oi!.
Patriotic Oi! is something I generally avoid, but in saying that, I do have Close shave, Last Resort and many other bands in my record collection that do a bit of flag waving.

Anyway Whitey, nice call on Vanilla Muffins, they are a fun band, Gimmie Some Sugar OI! is a classic track, they even do a rendition with Frankie Flame, the "Wizard of OI!" accomponying them on piano.

oh right, yeh, i remember this now, its pretty tongue in cheek tho, sampling hando calling pasta 'wog crap' in a song about pizza.

always thought that was funny in the movie, who the fuck doesnt eat pasta? i mean, i guess its no more stupid than dickheads who wont eat curry or chinese, but it had never honestly occurred to me that somebody wouldnt eat it for that reason, south americans are generally considered wogs by that type of cockhead, does he also refuse to eat potato?

gunna have a hard time eating at all if all you want is english food without any exotic origin.

anyway, neo-nazi skinhead caricatures aside, i dont get too precious about 'flag-waving' its rampant in the older stuff, nobodies condemning cocksparrer for 'england belongs to me' and nor should they, its from a different time, while the original Oi! scene wasnt about racism, youd be retarded if you thought it wasnt largely patriotic, personally ive no time for that stuff, and am likely to view any band who gets too carried away with that stuff with some suspicion.
but at the end of the day, being proud of something-or-other is mostly what the whole skin thing was about, so if they dont have anything else to stand up and sing about im not gunna knock em for it.

Drifting away from traditional OI!, heres a band from brisbane who i'm real into, they have delved pretty far into a 70's Australian rock n roll movement where they dressed similar to skins, but had silly shoes, cardigans and tiny mullets and called themselves 'sharpies' (not to be confused with SHARP skins). Theres a bit of resurgence in Aussie at the moment and they've even started re releasing some of the old vinyl, Coloured Balls were a big player in this movement.
This band has a member some big hitting OI bands from Brisbane, like Mouthguard and Plan of attack (which also feature the vocalist of Skint, from Ireland)
anyway, these guys are a bit of fun and have ripping riffs!

The music kicks arse but i dunno about the footwear. They kind of look like skinheads crossed with the new york dolls but some of them stole their grandads bowls cardigan

It's good eh? I've been hooked on the shit ever since I got to Australia, No Class take allot of influence/steal riffs (lets be honest) from allot of this shit.
This is the album I reckon, the one you need, I rarely take the cd out of my car stereo. Track 3 (5:12) Is an amazing proto punk track that I will never tire of, its energetic, punchy, ballsy and fucking catchy. Get it up ya!

Met one of these guys in Blackpool - he was a right arrogant twat. Banged on about how his band was so unique and diverse then got up there and played generic Oi!

If they reject pasta due to its Italian origin, why don't they reject fascism for the same reason? LOL!

Most new oi, sounds like its too nice.

Check out Crown Court Dave, They have something about them, they seem bit more real, even at times they could be from way back.

Hooligan from Ireland. Not strictly an Oi band, they had their times, lineup changes bit by looks. Guy can play guiatar though. Sorta even Uk Subs type vocals. but pretty sure you will like em. Sorta like their live stuff, more than recordings if you type Mondo after Hooligan, sum venue in France

More street punk than Oi! I guess but still good

Hey mike long time no chat. Yeah skinhead Joe got me onto crown court a while back. They're decent as, odd timing in the vocals but it works.

Phil, please refrain from posting videos from rubbish bands, that is the polar opposite of what this thread was about
