Missed all the bands apart from Tombs due to working on a painting. Tombs were pretty sick. A friend was joking to me that the keyboard player was in the murderdolls...I believed him for a second!

Caught some sick as fuck shows recently but these ones were epic as:
Sleep (420 as fuck)
Cheetah Chrome
The Soft Moon
Pavilion (Jonah Falco from Fucked Up and some dope ladies playing post-punk stuff)
Vanilla Poppers (sick 80s hardcore band from Ohio)
Poison Idea
Young And In The Way
Taake

YAITW and Taake show was intense and fun as. YAITW take the prize for being the most aggressive r 'n' r fuckers I've ever witnessed.

Black fucking Sabbath. Close enough to the stage to make eye contact with and get a nod from Tony Iommi. Jizzed my pants pretty hard.

I've been in Italy for nearly 2 years now and have seen a few bands, here's some quick shitty reviews

Ass Cobra - Seen these guys a bunch. The TJ Milano's Turbonego covers band, they only play Ass Cobra. Sloppy as shit. Awesome.

Turbonegro - Saw these guys in a smallish Italian beach town, It's not uncommon for bands touring Europe to play random towns in Italy (ie not Milan or Rome), kind of weird as they seemed to roll just a bit before the show and then rolled out the next day. Anywho, this was my second time seeing Turbonegro, the first time was in Melbourne soon after Tony joined they band. Thought they were way better this time, despite the venue/sound being super shitty. Bonus of the show being at a small town is that there were fuck all people so was able to have a good dance without playing sardines, also the whole band came and hung out at the bar next to the venue after the show.

Mean Jeans - Hadn't heard these guys before, despite a bunch of people really digging them. They were real good, and I'd definitely check them out again, but I'm still not exactly sure why they are so well known, but meh.

Street show - This was a show on the street outside a squat in central Milan (near the canals). Bunch of bands played, can't remember any names but they were all real good, mostly crusty sort of stuff - made me miss wellington. It was during August when it was super super hot so people were tipping/throwing supermarket bags full of water out of apartment windows on to the crowd. Good times.

Social Distortion - This was at a venue kind of far from central Milan, was a bit of a drag to get to/from, but was worth the trip as they are a band I've always wanted to see although had reservations as to how ridiculous Ness would be. They ended up being way better than expecting, super nasally, but real good. Except their cover of Rolling Stones Wiled horse which was really really really bad. Johnny Two Bags opened, didn't think much of that.

Slackers - Another band I've wanted to see for a long time and they lived up to expectations. Not much of a crowd which was a shame for them, but good for us. I guess ska isn't cool anymore...?

Reggae Workers of the World - This is a three piece made up of The Slackers Vic Ruggiero, Aggrolites Jesse Wagner, and Nico Leonard from some ska bands I don't know. Hadn't heard of these guys before I saw they were playing Milan. The show was them taking requests - mostly slackers and Aggrolites covers - and then a few songs from their LP. Was a small crowd and was super cool seeing two of the biggest names in contemporary Ska chatting to the crowd and having a good time.

Aggrolites - This show was at an awesome Punk/Anarchist squat in the hills above Genova, Italy, heaps of real good Ska DJ's, cheap Booze and a BBQ - Probably my favourite show since being over here, kind of reminded me of mid 2000 kings arms punk shows. The opening act was an all female 10 piece italian Ska band, played a bunch of good covers, their original material was a bit boring dub stuff. Aggrolites were as good as the first time I saw them in Auckland, this show was a bit different though as they played HEAPS of covers - it was the last show of their 30day european tour so maybe wanted to mix things up a bit?

Downtown Boys - Only knew these guys from their Springsteen Cover, but it was just down the road from my house so decided to check them out. They were ok.

Bruce Springsteen - Saw him in Rome in a venue that used to be a Roman Chariot Racing Stadium. Pretty awesome. It was all GA which was cool but we should have got there about 3 hours early to get a half decent spot, however that would have involved watching counting crows, so yeah.

Municipal Waste - The wellington show a few years ago is pretty blurry so was great to see these guys for a second time. They were real good, had a good dance.

Bad Religion - 4th? time seeing these dudes, but was probably the smallest crowd and didn't have north shore dicks to put up with so managed to push my way to the front. Enjoyed a lot.

TurboNegro/Turbo AC's/Peterpan Speedrock - This was the only show I went to in Hamburg during World Turbojugend Targ. Was underwelmed by Turbo AC's, Peter Pan Speedrock was real fucking good, and it was probably the best Turbonegro show Ive seen (better sound than the Italian show).

Last gig I went to was ze ska gig actually. Still cool enough to completely pack out the Thirsty Dog for Barefoot and Roofdog. Crowd thinned out a bit for Dimestore Skanks though. I guess some lightweight people overdose on ska even faster than me.
