The Punk Show on Radio One(Dunedin)
The Punk Show on Radio One(Dunedin)
Hey my name is Nath and i am a DJ at Radio One in Dunners. After a long wait I have been given a slot on Friday nights 11-1 to create a Punk show. Now i have my own plans but any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully it will be up and running in the next week or 2. Any input is welcomed and i will post more info when it is available
Cheers

Re: The Punk Show on Radio One(Dunedin)
Cool! And about time too. There was a long-running Punk show on Radio One called "Psychotronic Distortion and Damage Show", hosted for years by Fyfe, John Farrow, etc, but i'm pretty sure this was finally canned after the mic was accidently left on and picked up Gunga Jim making derogatory remarks about the station manager at the time. Could be wrong about that though. I can remember being a teenager living in Oamaru and tuning into that show each week, it put me onto so much great music, especially all the local stuff. A couple of years ago me and Fyfe approached the station about reviving this show, or any Punk show, but we didn't follow through enough on it, so kudos to you Nath for actually doing it.
My only advice would be to play heaps of current local stuff, of which there is plenty. And heaps of current NZ stuff, of which there is plenty.
Good luck.

Killer.
My only advice would be sure to promote the local punk/hardcore shows. Interviews with bands could be pretty funny
Feel free to hit me up for some tunes.

Likewise. Interviews are good fun! As well as promoting and playing local stuff a bit of new and nostalgic substance from other corners of the globe works a treat too.
Here's my shitty effort:
"Loud, Lewd and Rude"
"Froiday Noight"
"The Acapella Syphilis hours"
"Noise from Nathans Netheregion"
"Oitago Tinitus"
"Punk Rock Guttershaker"
"Nathans Nasty Noise"
"Nihilistic Nathans double Happy hour"
"Purple Helmet"
Good stuff dude!
Re: The Punk Show on Radio One(Dunedin)
I would suggest trying to play a wide range of stuff, Old School, newer stuff and mix of stuff that falls under the punk banner a lot of interesting stuff out there.
I used to do a punk show on Radio One with Stu, man we always drunk way too much in the studio made for rubbish radio probably.

Re: The Punk Show on Radio One(Dunedin)
good to hear! this shit has been missing from radio one...
haven't really listened to it in ages, apart from tuning into the local now and then.
but yea, kudos, this is excellent news. I'd try think of some shitty names but looks like you've got a good range to choose from.

Nath that's also a really good idea putting the shows on Mediafire for those that miss the shows too.
Totally come along to this man!

Flick me a poster and I'll get some up around Polytechnic.
PS - great to hear it's going ahead, I've felt this is something R1's been missing.
Not sure on choice of night though.

Drinking. Pubs. No radio.
But that's just me; judging by the amount of people out on Fridays nowadays I suspect there's a lot at home, so it could be an ideal night.
