GBK all day.

I reckon that sucked. Good example of a cover that isn't good enough to be impressive and not comical enough to be fun.

By the way, are GBK legit anti-semites? Or are they just cheeky, piece-of-shit dudes who make anti-religious music and have a lot of fun being negative cunts and drumming up controversy? I can't be fucked attempting to find the answer on some nerd-infested metal forum. They seem like they have a sense of humour, and from what I've heard their music is pretty decent, two things that white-supremacists playing metal usually lack completely. It's probably a muddled combination of all that shit right?

The fuck is it with cunts from the U.S. making black metal? They always seem to totally fuck it up in some respect. Whether they're fucking up making some punk BM stuff by taking it to the 'mysterious guy hardcore' extreme of pointlessly lo-fi recordings etc, trying to make the a BM tribute to Pink Floyd (which can only be fucking lame i.e. Nachtmystium's Black Meddle shit), doing what Xasthur does and ruining some fairly interesting stuff by just focusing on the crying in my own bedroom cos I have no mates and don't get enough sunlight aspect too much, or making some otherwise interesting melodic stuff like Wolves in the Throne Room laughable hippie metal by adding shit like wack philosophy and new age operatic vocals, or just being loser racists. And the result is never just straight-up funny, like this: http://cvcomics.com/Craft.jpg It's like they can't have fun with it and they're always trying too hard. I reckon some bands like Bone Awl are fucking wicked, but even they fuck it up by having a discography almost entirely composed of numerous demos, EPs and splits that sound like utter shit. I honestly think the U.S. should probably leave this kind of music alone, like how the Canadians shouldn't make hardcore. Von's all good though.

Blah blah blah blah. Anyway, definitely gives the original a run for it's money:

I think they are fairly serious, not the usual "fat kid's teenage angst" stuff you usually get from NSBM.

Re: US black metal. The older stuff like NME, Profanatica, Von were awesome but I guess lots of the bands from late 90's onwards were derived from Norsecore than old US black metal, that's where things began to fuck up IMO.

I'm actually glad that Bone Awl did more tapes than records. Considering that they used to release new material pretty frequently, it was actually easier for me to follow the tape releases due to the low cost and low postage. If they were all on vinyl that would've been a bit of a pain...

That makes sense. It's just kinda funny cause the U.S. usually does a fucking good job of extreme/underground music, often while they're inventing it. Good at punk, good at hardcore, good at thrash metal, doom metal, etc, etc. Pretty crap at black metal. Pretty much everywhere in Europe produces some fucking excellent stuff. South America has cool shit, so does Canada, Australia, NZ, Japan fucking rules at it. The U.S., really disproportionate amount of awesome bands considering the millions of people who live there.

yeah given the population there's so few good usbm bands - black witchery, hellvetron, prosanctus inferi and weregoat i'd rate up there for great current bands but could rattle off longer lists for most european countries with a fraction of the population.

GBK's Negative Approach cover is great imo but i've never been a fan of US hardcore like NA so no surprises i'd like the cover more than the original. GBK members do play in some dodgy bands sure but there's nothing overtly racist in the GBK albums. there's anti-jew lyrics attacking the religion rather than saying it's a shame they all didn't get thrown in ovens by germans or anything. GBK are pretty unique, got a great blend of black metal and punk/oi going on in their sound that i love. and yeah they're more serious than giggling bedroom musicians trying to be shocking for sure.

Chur for the straight answer. 'Can't Tell No One' is a pretty appropriate song for a band like that. I just like the original too much, out-of-time count in and everything.

Anyway, I rate this

above this

I got a friend of mine really upset ranting on Facebook about how I'm not a huge fan of black metal. He just wouldn't let it go. Unlike most people I know he's generally too humourless and hyper-rational to realise that once I get a bite I will continue the wind up for the hell of it. It was fucking great fun. Anyway, here's mine:

fuck yeah that 1000 homo djs version is awesome.

alice donut's covers are also outstanding. it's been far too long since i've listened to them, was pretty obsessed with them around when revenge fantasies of the impotent came out

my favourite:

also worthy of this thread:

all of which has also reminded me of this as i was listening to this a lot at around the same time:

Alice Donut and Killdozer collaborate on a song?? Fkn awesome. Used to listen to a lot of both those bands but been a while.

And here are my favourite covers at the moment, dunno if i'd say better than the originals, but honourable attempts:

I don`t believe it`s ever been confirmed if it`s al jourgensen or trent reznor singing on it
reznor was supposedly unable to appear on it due to his law suit with TVT at the time
legend has it al just distorted the vocals to disguise them

do they really doctor his voice that much in the studio or is he just a plain lazy ass when it comes to singing live
