What is powerviolence? I hear a lot about it, but haven't heard any, or been aware that I have. A good place to start?

explaining powerviolence is a little difficult, but listen to the bands in this thread so far, and you've pretty much got the classics, especially spazz, crossed out, man is the bastard and infest. then charles bronson, jenny piccolo, combatwoundedveteran.

oh, should mention that gang green, void, siege and jerry's kids tend to be common influences for these bands

maybe, but i don't really consider combatwoundedveteran to be that power violence, they're more on the grind/crazy side.

but thats just what i think

the name powerviolence is a joke. its from a live mitb song "westcoast power violence KICK IT!"

i'd have to say my favorite pv band at the moment is Despise you who are playing shows with chris dodge on bass (they started in '94 and only started playing shows this year!)

Go!
is a word that defies definition
it needs no clarification
Go!
is the foundation of hardcore
but for me it means so much more
Go!
it can signify a chorus or a fast part, too
a sing along with my friends or a heavy breakdown
let's fucking Go!!!
so c'mon man, don't be ashamed
screaming "Go!" is not a game
and for all the bands who don't say it
you are so fucking lame
1-2-3 Go!
next time you are at a show
and the crucial moment arrives
point your finger and shout Go!
the word Go! is for everyone
and to say it is so much fun
but the emo kids hate it
next time you are at a show
and the crucial moment arrives
point your finger and shout Go!

There are Spazz reissues
'I Like It When You Die' is the fourth album by American grindcore band Anal Cunt. The album was originally titled You're Gay, and the album cover was going to contain a mirror, but this idea was later changed

Siege from Boston were pretty much the pioneers and nailed it better than any other subsequent bands:

Haven't listened to much PV for quite a while, but this is one of the best LPs I've heard in the last few years.
