So anyone use Discogs...

www.discogs.com

Its rather awesome... They previously only did dance muisic but I have heard they expanded into other things now as there dance music was rather comprehensive to say the least... anyhow Is basically the bes way to wank about your music colection to others....

Probally not so good for punk stuff yet but because of its wiki like format It will no doubt be in the future....

hehe only gripe is alll the stupid pressed in nz hyjinks which aint on there....

I really need to update my collection on there, I was about to over the weekend, until someone reminded me that it's a lot of effort for no real benefit to myself.

kind of weird/annoying it shows up like that, it was a response to someone else's similar comment and I'm pretty sure I didn't click the "my comment is a review button"...

anyway, it's important to have the right release!

Going to be that guy and list my MusicBrainz list instead, close enough?
http://musicbrainz.org/collection/ac668219-3f0e-4f11-98a9-6d400e6479a2

I started submitting stuff to discogs/ listing my collection but decided to contribute to a non-profit open database instead. Not that Discogs is bad or anything.
edit: I need to throw that Richard Clayderman pos out, it's only a matter of time before it infects the rest..

Discogs is owned/ provided by a company (Zink Media, Inc), they own any data you put on there, they can discontinue/ start charging for it (like happened with CDDB in 2000) any time they want. MusicBrainz has been set up to be open source and as a non-profit foundation set up to avoid the possibility of that ever happening.
Not saying Discogs is going to do that, and I like the site (looks a fuckton better than MB does), but if I'm contributing time and information I'd rather go with those guys

Am experiencing some serious jealousy of Akaxo's collection

MusicBrainz's software is all open source, so it's a lot like the MediaWiki/Wikipedia of music, with plenty of ways developers of other websites can interact. The revenue gathered from commercial licences all goes towards keeping the site running.

Cool, good to know.

I've invested way too much time in discogs to consider jumping ship, hopefully they don't become dicks.

Not having all my records with me really sux, obviously because I can't listen to them all, but more importantly because I can't confirm who was the idiot when someone makes changes on one of my discogs contributions

Sometimes you can find good scans on eBay auctions to zoom in on and do detective work.

sweet, do you reckon it does much better than a spray with some suitable fluid and good wipe down with a microfibre cloth? i've been close to getting one a couple of times.
